The Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of facility-wide safety, life safety, Environment of Care, and hazardous materials programs. They ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, fire, building, and environmental requirements; coordinate inspections, risk assessments, corrective actions, contractor activities, and construction-related safety measures. This role provides leadership, technical guidance, training, and regulatory support to hospital departments and committees while maintaining required documentation and promoting a safe, compliant environment for patients, employees, visitors, and campus occupants. We are hoping to find someone with extensive understanding of facilities management, hazardous materials management, and safety best practices. Equally important is someone who can collaborate effectively with departments within the hospitals as well as external partners, manage projects effectively, and bring attention to detail, professionalism, and a can-do attitude to this role. This position is 37.5 per week, working Mon-Fri, 7:30-3:30. Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive): Develop, implement, monitor, and oversee a comprehensive, facility-wide Life Safety Management Program encompassing safety and life safety. Develop, document, and monitor the effectiveness of the Building Maintenance Program, including the inspection, testing, certification, and maintenance of building life safety systems and components. Develop and monitor the Environmental Safety and Hazard Surveillance Program, including Environment of Care (EOC) surveillance, inspections, testing, and certification activities. Review reports for completeness, accuracy, and content . Oversee and promote compliance with applicable federal, state, and accreditation requirements, including Joint Commission standards, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requirements, NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection requirements, Massachusetts State Building Code, and other applicable regulations and standards. Develop and administer an Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM) Program to identify and implement appropriate preventive and compensatory measures when life safety systems or building components are compromised, including fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, means of egress, or other conditions that may increase fire or life safety risk. Develop, implement, and evaluate facility-wide environmental safety and hazard surveillance programs. Coordinate Environment of Care inspections, surveillance activities, testing, certifications, and related documentation. Serve as the hospital's Hazardous Materials and Right-to-Know Officer. Coordinate the containment, removal, and proper disposal of hazardous materials and contaminated waste. Exercise authority delegated by the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating officer or designee to intervene and recommend appropriate courses of action when the physical environment or the health and safety of patients, residents, employees, or visitors is threatened by natural, technological, biological, man-made, or other emergencies. Coordinate safety, life safety, fire protection, environmental, and regulatory requirements associated with construction, renovation, maintenance, and other facility projects. Develop, maintain, and periodically revise policies, procedures, plans, programs, inspection records, training materials, reports, and other documentation related to safety, life safety, and Environment of Care. Monitor and coordinate contractors providing safety, life safety, fire protection, inspection, testing, certification, and related services. Provide leadership and technical direction for facility-wide safety, life safety, and Environment of Care.
Required Qualifications:
Ability to coordinate the efforts of others in accomplishing assigned work objectives. Ability to understand, explain and apply the law, rules, regulations, policies and procedures of a comprehensive Environment of Care program. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written presentation. Ability to read and interpret Joint Commission Standards and Elements of Performance. Ability to compose comprehensive instructions, reports, policies and procedures. Ability to adjust to varying changing situations to meet emergency or changing program requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of hospital specific systems and equipment. Knowledge of hospital related policies, procedures, documentation and practices. Knowledge of specific needs of the hospital, its staff and the patients they serve. About the

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must have at least (A) four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional, administrative or managerial experience in business administration, business management or public administration the major duties of which involved program management, program administration, program coordination, program planning and/or program analysis, and (B) of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A Bachelor's degree with a major in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required (A) experience.
- II. A Graduate degree with a major in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of three years of the required (A) experience.
- III. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major other than in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.
- Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
