The University of Nottingham is seeking a motivated, experienced and proactive Health and Safety Officer to join our Health & Safety Department, with a focus on monitoring, auditing and continuous improvement across our operations. Reporting to the Head of Health and Safety, you'll work closely with colleagues across the Health and Safety team, academic and professional service departments, and senior stakeholders to help embed a positive safety culture across the University. A typical day might involve carrying out an inspection in one of our laboratories or workshops, writing up findings for department leads, reviewing a risk assessment, or investigating an incident.
The role will see you:
Carrying out inspections and audits across University sites, producing clear written reports for relevant stakeholders. Investigating accidents and near misses, ensuring all incidents are accurately recorded and reported. Reviewing risk assessments as part of our monitoring processes. Keeping Health & Safety Management System documentation accurate, up to date and accessible to those who need it. Coordinating engagement with key stakeholders across the University and helping share good practice more widely. Working collaboratively with colleagues in a range of roles, from academic departments to senior leadership.
You will:
Hold a NEBOSH General Certificate, or an NVQ Level3/4 in Occupational Health and Safety. Have experience conducting inspections, audits, or investigations in a similar setting. Have strong communication skills, with the confidence to liaise effectively with stakeholders at all levels. Have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint and Power BI Have a proactive, detail-focused approach to problem solving.
