Essential Duties & Responsibilities On-Site Field Inspections:
Conduct regular, hands-on site inspections for OSHA and MSHA compliance across underground utility installations, pipe laying, trenching, asphalt paving, milling, and grading operations.
Underground Utility Safety Focus:
Actively monitor underground utility work, verifying trench safety, excavation shoring, utility clearances, and safe heavy equipment operation on active sites.
Practical Safety Training:
Conduct interactive field training and toolbox talks on fall protection, confined space entry, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO), first aid/CPR, and site orientation for field crews.
Meeting Coordination:
Lead weekly foreman safety huddles and monthly crew safety meetings to discuss active hazards, job site protocols, and practical safety improvements.
Crew & Management Liaison:
Work directly alongside field personnel and foremen to coach safe behaviors, correct unsafe conditions on the spot, and maintain clear communication with site management.
Project Safety Support:
Assist in maintaining site safety plans, completing required site inspection logs, and ensuring company safety policies are practically applied on the job.
Hazard Identification & Corrective Action:
Perform daily/weekly safety audits, document field findings, and work directly with site crews to resolve identified safety hazards quickly.
Incident & Administrative Support:
Assist with safety documentation, standard regulatory logs, and basic incident investigations or claims support (Workers' Comp, General Liability, Auto) as needed.
General Field Support:
Perform related hands-on site safety functions as required by active project conditions. Experience Requirements Underground Utility Experience (Mandatory): Practical, hands-on background in underground utility construction, trenching, excavation, and pipe laying safety.
Mid-Level Field Role:
Seeking a practical, experienced field safety practitioner (ideally 3 to 7+ years of hands-on job site safety experience).
Education & Background:
Associate or undergraduate degree in occupational health and safety, construction management, or equivalent practical field safety experience.
Regulatory Knowledge:
Practical working knowledge of Federal OSHA construction standards (29 CFR 1926) and MSHA requirements.
Technical & Computer Skills:
Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and mobile site inspection apps or safety reporting software.
Communication & Driving:
Strong interpersonal communication skills to effectively engage field crews and site supervisors. Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
Preferred Credentials:
OSHA 30-Hour Construction card, CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician), CSHM, or related practical safety certifications. Bilingual capabilities (Spanish) are a strong plus.
Work Environment :
Primary work is conducted outdoors on active civil, utility, asphalt, and site construction locations, with supplementary time spent in a job site trailer or office handling documentation. Must be comfortable working around heavy machinery, utility trenching, and active field operations.
