Field Safety Technician Oil field company Odessa, TX Job Details Full-time $1,300 - $1,400 a week 5 hours ago Qualifications Visual inspections for vehicle diagnostics High school diploma or GED Commercial vehicle Full Job Description Field Safety Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED (Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred) Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in commercial trucking or transportation safety Valid driver's license (CDL preferred, especially with hotshot or flatbed experience) Clean driving record Ability to pass a background check and drug screening Knowledge & Experience Thorough understanding of: ◦ FMCSA regulations (49 CFR Parts 350-399) ◦ DOT compliance requirements ◦ Hours of Service (HOS) ◦ Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) ◦ Driver Qualification (DQ) files ◦ Vehicle inspection requirements ◦ Cargo securement regulations ◦ Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse requirements ◦ Accident reporting procedures ◦ Texas DOT regulations (if operating primarily in Texas) Experience conducting safety audits and inspections Experience investigating accidents and near misses Ability to coach and train drivers on safe driving practices Certifications (Highly Preferred) OSHA 10-Hour General Industry (minimum) OSHA 30-Hour General Industry (preferred) Smith System Defensive Driving Instructor (preferred) First Aid/CPR Certification DOT Reasonable Suspicion Supervisor Training Certified Director of Safety (CDS) or Certified Safety Supervisor (beneficial) North American Cargo Securement Certification (preferred) Daily Responsibilities Conduct field safety inspections on trucks and trailers Perform ride-alongs and driver observations Verify pre-trip and post-trip inspections are completed correctly Ensure drivers comply with HOS regulations Audit ELD logs for violations Inspect load securement before drivers leave Conduct accident investigations Perform safety meetings and toolbox talks Monitor driver qualification files Review roadside inspection reports Coordinate vehicle maintenance with the shop Ensure DOT files remain compliant Coach drivers on unsafe behaviors Conduct new-hire road evaluations Skills Strong communication and leadership Attention to detail Conflict resolution Report writing Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, ELD software, fleet management systems) Ability to work independently Organizational and time-management skills Physical Requirements Walk around trucks and trailers daily Climb onto trailers to inspect loads Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally Work outdoors in various weather conditions Travel to job sites, customer locations, and accident scenes Recommended Training FMCSA Compliance Training DOT Audit Preparation Cargo Securement Training Accident Investigation Root Cause Analysis Driver Coaching Techniques OSHA Safety Management Hazard Communication Bloodborne Pathogens Fire Extinguisher Training Preferred Experience for a Hotshot Company A strong candidate should have experience with: Hotshot operations (pickup and gooseneck trailers) Flatbed and step-deck freight Oversize and overweight loads (if applicable) Load securement using chains, binders, and straps Multi-state operations Roadside DOT inspections Commercial vehicle maintenance and inspections Driver recruiting and onboarding Safety program development Company MSA ISN Veriforce NCMS Ariba Salary start pay 1,400 weekly probation period 90 days Revaluate after probation period pay may be 1600 to 1800 weekly
