Job description Spokane Colleges is seeking a dynamic educator to join our team as an adjunct instructor. This is an adjunct (part-time) position. Compensation will be pro-rated according to the amount of workload assigned. Spokane Colleges reserves the right to cancel this recruitment without notice. About the Home Care Aide Trainer The instructor would teach Home Care Aide classes in the Pasco and Yakima areas. Instructor would need to teach in English and Spanish. Flexibility is required. Most scheduling occurs within the time frame of 7:00am-5:00pm on weekdays, but weekend work is possible. Qualifications vary - Please review the below carefully (If you have relevant experience you likely qualify - we encourage diversity of experience in our instructors.)
  • If you have a High School Diploma/GED and 1 year of professional or care giving experience within the last 5 years in a long-term care community setting (CNA, Caretaker, Home Care Aide) you qualify. or
  • If you have an AA Degree or higher in health or human services and 6 months of care giving experience within the last 5 years in long-term care community setting you qualify. or
  • If you have an active Washington state RN license in good standing with work experience within the last 5 years with clients of long-term care community setting you qualify.
Experience with Zoom, Microsoft Office (Outlook, One Drive, Excel, PowerPoint) preferred.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Contract position. Must fulfill DSHS Adult Education Certificate. Must review program curriculum and complete observation of Basic Training 70 prior to instructing. Candidates must be bilingual (Spanish/English) Must complete DSHS Community Instructor Application Could include local or regional travel. If using personal vehicle proof of driver's license and car insurance required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Work is performed in indoor temperature-controlled office environment, and outdoor uncontrolled elements.
  • Frequent use of computer and exposure to terminal screens.
  • Frequent repetitive hand/wrist motions and finger manipulation.
  • Frequent oral and auditory communication with others.
  • Frequent kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing and twisting.
  • Move up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Requires communication ability necessary to understand instructions.
  • Occasional exposure to fumes, dust, odors and/or biohazards.

  • Instruct State approved Home Care Aide trainings including skill demonstrations specific to program design.
  • Instructor will be expected to teach in-person and virtually via Zoom.
  • Be available via phone or email for program updates and communication
  • The ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and goals of the institution, community and technical college system.
  • A demonstrated understanding and value for the contributions that a diverse workforce can make to the success of the organization and the students we serve.
  • Support and advance the Spokane Colleges strategic plan, and perform other duties as assigned.

    $32.93 - $36.14 per hour
    • Adjunct faculty must work two (2) consecutive quarters at 50% or more of full-time academic load in order to qualify for benefits (based on instructional hours only).
    • Co-instruction will be required prior to instructing first solo training.
