Responsibilities Safely operate transit vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vans in accordance with state and local commercial driving laws. Assist passengers with wheelchair assistance, behavior management, and child or student discipline when necessary, ensuring a respectful and secure environment. Follow traffic laws diligently, respond quickly to traffic changes, and execute emergency stop procedures when required to maintain passenger safety. Provide excellent customer service by communicating clearly with passengers, addressing their needs, and managing any behavioral issues professionally. Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure compliance with transportation safety regulations and vehicle codes; report any mechanical issues promptly. Implement emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including first aid (CPR certified), child safety protocols, and accident reporting. Maintain accurate records of trips, passenger counts, incident reports, and vehicle logs while adhering to school policies and transportation standards. Experience Proven experience operating commercial vehicles such as school buses or transit buses with a valid CDL license. Strong knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations applicable to commercial driving. Experience working with children or individuals requiring special assistance demonstrates patience and excellent behavior management skills. Familiarity with emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including CPR certification and first aid training.
