Overview Join our dynamic transportation team as a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Driver, where your skills will directly impact safe and reliable passenger transportation. This role offers an exciting opportunity to operate various transit vehicles, including school buses and paratransit vans, ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers, especially children and individuals with mobility needs. Responsibilities Safely operate transit vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vans in accordance with state and local commercial driving laws. Assist passengers with wheelchair assistance, behavior management, and child or student discipline when necessary, ensuring a respectful and secure environment. Follow traffic laws diligently, respond quickly to traffic changes, and execute emergency stop procedures when required to maintain passenger safety. Provide excellent customer service by communicating clearly with passengers, addressing their needs, and managing any behavioral issues professionally. Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure compliance with transportation safety regulations and vehicle codes; report any mechanical issues promptly. Implement emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including first aid (CPR certified), child safety protocols, and accident reporting. Maintain accurate records of trips, passenger counts, incident reports, and vehicle logs while adhering to school policies and transportation standards. Experience Proven experience operating commercial vehicles such as school buses or transit buses with a valid CDL license. Strong knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations applicable to commercial driving. Experience working with children or individuals requiring special assistance demonstrates patience and excellent behavior management skills. Familiarity with emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including CPR certification and first aid training. Ability to communicate effectively in English; multilingual skills are a plus for serving diverse communities. Demonstrated ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary for passenger assistance or vehicle maintenance tasks. Prior experience in student discipline or childcare settings enhances the ability to manage passenger behavior effectively.
