CAREER
FIELD DEFINITION
Officers in this Career Field perform a variety of security, countermeasure, investigative, and law enforcement services to protect and safeguard Defense Intelligence Agency employees, property,
operations, and information. Services directly support a variety of security programs including: Personnel Security (PERSEC), Information Security (INFOSEC), Physical Security (PHYSEC),
Industrial Security, and the Insider Threat Program. Some of the major activities include: adjudications, continuous vetting, security investigations, polygraph examinations, classification
management, security incident response, security inquiries, security training and awareness, technical security, force protection, risk assessments, police operations, and threat mitigation.
SECURITY CAREER FIELD SPECIALTIES
Security Specialist Career Specialty:
Officers in this specialty are responsible for the full spectrum of security activities affecting not only DIA, but the entire Department of Defense. From developing policies for sensitive compartmented information facilities to adjudicating access eligibility to supporting the Defense Attaché Service in more than 140 countries worldwide, officers in this specialty enable DIA mission success.
All newly hired employees and employees entering the Security Career Field Security Specialty indexed positions after March 10, 2016 are required to obtain the DoD Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) from the Center for Development of Security Excellence (CDSE) under the provisions of DoD Manual 3305.13, within two years of encumbering the billet.
This position requires that the employee, as a condition of employment, have, or obtain within two years of appointment and maintain current the DoD Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) and have or obtain within another two years, and maintain current, the Security Asset Protection Professional Certification (SAPPC) from the Center for Development of Security Excellence under the provisions of DoD Manual 3305. 13
Adjudicator Career Specialty:
This position requires the employee, as a condition of employment, have, or obtain within two years of appointment, and maintain current, the DoD Adjudications Professional Certification (APC) from the Center for the Development of Security Excellence under the provision of the Adjudications training program, and have or obtain within another two years, and maintain current, the DoD Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) from the Center for the Development of Security Excellence (CDSE) under the provisions of DoD Manual 3305.13."

CAREER FIELD DEFINITION
(U) Officers in this Career Field perform a variety of security, countermeasure, investigative, and law enforcement services to protect and safeguard DIA Officers, property, operations, and classified and sensitive information. Services include multidisciplinary security activities
- physical, technical, information, industrial, and personnel security.
Perform adjudication and due process for personnel clearances for DIA. Responsible for resolving difficult personnel security concerns. Adjudicates investigative information for Top Secret (TS)/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) eligibility, applying appropriate adjudicative guidelines covering derogatory information that requires extensive experience and personal non-biased judgment. Perform force protection activities and global specialized protective operations
- Police Force operations: canine services, Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) activities, anti-terrorism assessments, protective security details, and special reactionary forces.
Manage DoD's and DIA's SCI facilities, including tempest countermeasure review, comprehensive security inspections and accreditations. Perform Special Security Officer (SSO) services and the security management of DIA's special access programs. Conduct security violation, criminal and other law enforcement investigations and inquiries. Develop, advise, and implement SCI policies for the DoD and DIA, including providing SCI certification training to the DoD SSO workforce, and manage the Defense Special Security System (DS3). Management of an insider threat program, including detection and mitigation activities. Perform DoD Diplomatic Security activities (i.e., security, force protection, and threat/vulnerability/risk assessments) in support of DoD elements under the Chiefs of Mission. Promote efficiency in the creation, classification, safeguarding, handling, use and declassification of information. Perform credibility assessment function to include operational and instructional activities. Provides force protection services to enhance the security of Agency personnel, mitigate the risk and enable the collection mission of the Agency in high threat environments.
CAREER SPECIALITY DEFINITION
(U) Engages in multidiscipline security activities and risk management functions to protect and safeguard DIA Officers, property, information and operations. Functions include the development, implementation and management of programs to meet DIA requirements under Federal law, statutes, Executive Orders, Intelligence Community Policy, Department of Defense (DOD) Policy, and DIA-specific, regulations, policies, and procedures. Programs designed to meet DIA obligations to the broader IC and DOD security enterprises as well as develop and implementation of guidance for internal programs throughout all levels of the agency to include: Analytical Risk Management, Industrial Security Program, Information, Security Program, Personnel Security Program, Physical Security Program, Sensitive Compartmented Information Program, Special Access Program, and Operations Security Program. Manage DoD's and DIA's SCI facilities, including tempest countermeasure review, comprehensive security inspections and accreditations. Develop, advise, and implement SCI policies for the DoD and DIA. Manage the Defense Special Security System. Perform DoD Diplomatic Security activities in support of DoD elements under the Chiefs of Mission.
CAREER SPECIALITY COMPETENCIES
(U) Understands and applies knowledge of Federal law, statutes, Executive Orders, Intelligence Community Policy, Department of Defense (DOD) Policy, and DIA/CCMD-specific, regulations, policies, and requirements that govern multiple security disciplines (e.g., Personnel, Information, Physical, Industrial, Information Systems, Classification Management, Operations Security & Special Access Programs) to interpret, analyze, develop, implement, and enforce local security policies and procedures. Applies security principles and methods to initiate and adjudicate personnel security clearance actions, determine classification management decisions, protect, communicate, store, transmit, transport and destroy classified and sensitive but unclassified information, control access and manage vulnerabilities for facilities and personnel. Identifies program requirements, conducts surveys, performs inspections, completes trend analyses, and provides security advice and guidance.

(i.e., retired under section 8336(d)(1) or 8414(b)(1)(A) of title 5, United States Code) appointed to the Department of Defense may elect to be subject to retirement provisions of the new appointment as appropriate. VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
DIA does not guarantee any applicant the extension of an official offer of employment; however, DIA will be screening all employment applicants against its current and future manpower requirements. Selected applicants will be considered for the Agency's Hiring Pool for a maximum of two years. Candidates may be removed from the hiring pool for reasons including non-placement, expiration of clearance, unresponsiveness, or changes in mission requirements. DIA is an Agency with worldwide positions. Selected candidates must be willing to relocate in support of mission requirements.
CURRENT FEDERAL EMPLOYEES
This position is a Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS) position in the Excepted Service under 10 U.S.C. 1601. Selectee(s) who are current Federal employees will be appointed to the new position at the grade in which they qualify for. Those at a higher grade than the advertised position, will be asked to accept a voluntary change to the lower grade if selected. All current and prior Federal employees must also submit a copy of their SF-50, Notification of Personnel Action that documents their appointment to or promotion to the highest grade held. Consideration for future advancement opportunities will be through DIA's established promotion processes, according to established timeframes, advancement criteria and compensation parameters.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
All employees are required to sign an agreement not to disclose, in any fashion, classified information to unauthorized persons. An agreement is also required to authorize agency pre-publication review of certain material prior to disclosure during and after employment with DIA.
