Job Description

Position Summary:
The Security Guard plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors within the school premises. This position involves monitoring campus activities, enforcing school policies, and responding to security incidents as needed.
Reports To:
Principal and Director of Operations Qualifications:
High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) Valid Alabama driver's license and acceptable driving record Knowledge of laws and regulations governing school safety Three years of related experience Fingerprint clearance with the Alabama State Department of Education prior to the start date
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct regular patrols of school grounds, including hallways, classrooms, parking lots, and outdoor areas Monitor security cameras and alarms to detect and respond to suspicious activities or unauthorized individuals Maintain a visible presence to deter unauthorized entry and ensure a safe environment for all Greet visitors, verify their identity, and issue visitor badges as necessary Monitor access points and enforce visitor check-in procedures to control entry into the school Escort visitors to designated areas and assist with directions or inquiries Respond promptly to emergency situations, including medical emergencies, fights, or security threats Follow established protocols for crisis management and coordinate with law enforcement or emergency services when necessary Provide assistance and support during evacuation drills and actual emergency evacuations Enforce school rules and regulations related to safety and security Address disruptive behavior or conduct by students or visitors in accordance with school policies Collaborate with school administration and staff to maintain a positive and respectful learning environment Document security incidents, observations, and actions taken in detailed incident reports Communicate security concerns or issues to appropriate school personnel and administration Maintain accurate records of security-related activities and provide testimony as needed Perform other duties as assigned by administrators
Required Skills and Competencies:
Ability to follow both oral and written directions and instructions. Ability to communicate clearly, orally, and in writing. Ability to effectively present information to others and respond to students, parents, and staff. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of student matters. Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities. Ability to be professional in appearance, attitude, and demeanor. Ability to be punctual and comply with a precise work schedule. Ability to stand, walk, and run to emergencies. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Basic understanding and knowledge of current technology.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee must also talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use their hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
