Job Description

Job Summary Under the direction of a site administrator, campus aides oversee and monitor student conduct in hallways, lunch areas, parking lots and other areas at the school, and are responsible for safety and security of school, students, staff and facilities during school hours. These positions primarily focus on security and safety at the La Cañada High School campus. Responsibilities Ensures overall compliance with traffic rules and regulations; supervises facility to prevent theft, vandalism and illegal parking. Monitors student behavior while on campus. Provides disciplinary referrals when students become potentially harmful to themselves or others. Notifies superior of activity dealing with tobacco, alcohol, dangerous drugs, theft, vandalism, profanity and other disruptive and unsafe activities. Investigates unauthorized persons who are on or about campus and takes appropriate action. Assists in emergency procedures concerning safety of employees and students. Reports safety hazards. Attends professional development, trainings, and meetings as requested. Performs duties in other areas as assigned.
Ability to:
Work cooperatively and efficiently with all staff, students, parents, and the public. Present a positive image of the school and its operation to the public. Provide immediate and personal contact for students and staff needing assistance. Detect substance use and abuse. Be available, as needed, for extra-curricular activities. Handle potentially violent situations. Adhere to established work schedule.
Knowledge of:
Campus safety practices and protocols. District policies, rules, and regulations. General needs, social, and emotional characteristics of students. Diversity awareness.
Physical Demands:
Requires ability to work in a variety of buildings, facilities and outside environments with varying degrees of temperature that may be hot or cold depending on the season of the year. Requires ability to bend, stoop, reach and lift above shoulder height. Requires ability to sit, stand, walk and/or sustain physical activity for the length of the work period. Requires ability to talk and hear in person and with electronic devices. Requires ability to stand, sit, walk, twist, stop, crouch, climb, kneel, bend over, grasp, push, pull and reach overhead.
