Essential Functions Conveys safety and security policies and enforcement procedures to students, staff and visitors for the purpose of ensuring understanding of safety information and knowledge of potential violation consequences. Facilitates communication with students, staff, parents and law enforcement for the purpose of establishing positive rapport with students, enhancing understanding, promoting cooperation and a safe and secure environment. Intervenes in potential conflicts and emergency situations for the purpose of minimizing disruptions of campus activities and/or injury to involved parties. Participates in emergency drills (e.g. fire, lockdown, evacuation, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring efficiency of procedures and complying with mandated requirements and response protocols. Attends unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions. Patrols campus facilities, grounds and adjacent areas during and between assigned periods and at student events (e.g. lunch room, classrooms with substitute teachers, rest rooms, detention, dances, home athletic events, etc.) for the purpose of monitoring student, staff and visitor compliance with established guidelines to maintain a safe and positive learning environment and secure facility. Prepares written materials (e.g. incident reports, activity logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information. Provides a wide variety of security and safety assistance throughout the facilities (e.g. general supervision of students, escorting students, observing and reporting behaviors, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment for students, staff and visitors and taking preventive measures to reduce safety hazards. Provides traffic and parking control for the purpose of maintaining efficient traffic flow and use of parking lots. Directs pedestrian and vehicle traffic during peak times (e.g. arrival and dismissal); supervising crosswalks and monitoring campus entrances and exits to ensure safety and orderly movement; setting up and removing cones, barricades, and safety signage as needed; operating two-way radios to coordinate traffic flow and report safety concerns; responding promptly to traffic-related incidents and concerns to maintain a secure environment. Responds to a variety of situations and incidents (e.g. medical emergencies, altercations, rule violations, vandalism, suspicious activity, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns, providing referrals to appropriate site personnel or providing direction for follow-up actions as may be required in accordance with established guidelines. Responds to inquiries from various sources regarding campus safety issues, providing information, direction, and/or referrals as appropriate. Secures facilities and grounds (e.g. doors, gates, alarms, lights, classrooms, lockers, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing property damage, equipment loss and/or potential liability. Other Functions Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
