The program provides a safe bed, case management and housing navigation services, prepared meals, participant monitoring, and security. Participants receive two prepared meals per day on weekdays and three prepared meals per day on weekends. Shelter staff distribute prepared meals only and do not cook or prepare food. All staff are expected to treat participants with dignity and respect, maintain professional boundaries, protect confidentiality, and follow ACT policies and Los Angeles County Homeless and Housing Services requirements. Position Summary The Evening/Overnight/Weekend Shift Security Officer helps maintain a safe, clean, and orderly environment for Winter Shelter participants, staff, visitors, and the facility. The Security Officer maintains a visible presence, monitors entrances and exits, conducts patrols, completes required 30-minute fire watch rounds, tracks participant use of showers and restrooms, and works closely with Shelter Monitors to maintain a clean and safe shelter environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain a visible security presence throughout the shelter and surrounding property.
• Monitor designated entrances and exits and report unauthorized access.
• Conduct regular interior and exterior patrols.
• Complete and document Fire Watch rounds every 30 minutes throughout the assigned shift.
• Maintain an accurate Fire Watch Log and check for smoke, fire, unusual odors, electrical concerns, blocked exits, and other hazards.
• Track participant use of showers and restrooms using ACT's designated logs or tracking system.
• Monitor shower and restroom areas for appropriate use while protecting participant privacy and dignity.
• Report plumbing, sanitation, maintenance, and safety concerns promptly.
• Work with Shelter Monitors to maintain clean and safe restrooms, showers, sleeping areas, hallways, and common areas.
• Help identify spills, trash, trip hazards, blocked walkways, damaged furnishings, or other unsafe conditions.
• Support an orderly environment during check-in, check-out, meal distribution, shower use, restroom access, and other busy periods.
• Respond to disturbances, threats, theft, property damage, and other safety concerns.
• Use verbal de-escalation and conflict resolution whenever appropriate.
• Contact emergency services when needed and assist with evacuations and emergency procedures.
• Complete security logs, patrol logs, incident reports, Fire Watch Logs, and shower/restroom tracking records.
• Communicate important safety and facility concerns during shift change.
• Treat each individual participant with fairness, respect and dignity. Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous experience in security, shelter services, residential programs, social services, healthcare, or a related environment preferred.
• Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations.
• Strong observation, documentation, and communication skills.
• Valid California security registration when required for assigned duties.
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
• Ability to complete 30-minute Fire Watch Logs and other required records accurately. What ACT Expects From Every Winter Shelter Employee

Seasonal Employment This position supports ACT's seasonal Winter Shelter Program, which operates from November 1 through March 31 each year. Work schedules may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays depending on the position and program needs. Continued employment beyond the seasonal program period is not guaranteed.
