Storm Duty Requirements Tampa Electric and its sister companies serve a role in providing critical services to our community during an emergency. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our Tampa Electric customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures. The Security Officer is an armed position responsible for safeguarding critical energy infrastructure and facilities by conducting static and roving patrols, monitoring for security breaches, and responding to incidents. Ensures the physical protection of assets, team members, and sensitive operations at high-risk facilities, including power plants, substations, and transmission hubs.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Patrol and Surveillance Conduct scheduled and unscheduled roving patrols of the facility perimeter, access points, and interior zones. Monitor surveillance systems (CCTV, motion detectors, etc.) and report suspicious activity. Inspect fences, gates, lighting, and other physical security measures for signs of tampering or damage. Ensure all restricted areas are secure and access is controlled. Reporting and Documentation Maintain detailed and accurate logs of patrols, incidents, and observations. Complete incident reports, daily activity reports, and shift handover documentation. Report safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, and security breaches promptly. Access Control Verify credentials of personnel, contractors, and visitors entering sites. Enforce site-specific access control procedures and maintain visitor logs. Prevent unauthorized access to sensitive or restricted areas. Emergency Response Respond to alarms, emergencies, and incidents in accordance with established protocols. Provide armed response to potential threats, including intrusions, sabotage, or hostile individuals. Coordinate with local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency services as needed.LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Required :
Must possess a valid Class "G" license (Security Guard license) under Florida State Statutes 493 and 790 and must demonstrate a 90% or greater proficiency with the assigned weapons system or achieve within30 days of appointment. Firearms training and demonstrated proficiency.Preferred :
CPR/First Aid/AED certification, FEMAICS/NIMS
training.EDUCATION
Required :
High school diploma or equivalentEXPERIENCE
Required :
4 years of experience in law enforcement, military or in the security industry.Preferred :
Experience in critical infrastructure protection or energy sector security.KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

Strong situational awareness and attention to detail. Ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Familiarity with security technology (CCTV, access control systems, radios).COMPETENCIES

Outdoor and indoor patrols in varying weather conditions. Shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Standing, walking, and driving for extended periods. Exposure to high-risk environments requiring vigilance and readiness.PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods (8-12 hours per shift). Capability to operate patrol vehicles for long durations. Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and navigate uneven terrain. Ability to lift, carry, or move equipment up to 50 pounds. Ability to run or respond quickly during emergency situations. Risk Factors include potential exposure to violent or non-compliant individuals requiring defensive response, risk of injury during emergency response, physical intervention, or environmental hazards, exposure to high-stress and high-pressure situations, including emergencies and critical incidents. Work in environments with limited visibility, hazardous materials (site dependent, adverse weather conditions and possible exposure to biohazards, bloodborne pathogens, or other safety risks.
