OVERVIEW

The Safety and Security Officer ensures the safety and security of residents, staff, visitors, and property within the living facility. This role involves monitoring premises, managing access, responding to incidents, and assisting with emergencies while maintaining a calm, respectful, and supportive environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Monitor entrances, exits, and common areas to prevent unauthorized access and ensure resident safety.

• Perform regular patrols of the property, including buildings, grounds, and parking areas. Respond promptly to incidents, alarms, or emergencies (e.g., medical, fire, disturbances). Monitor and manage security camera systems, alarm systems, and communication equipment. Maintain logs and write detailed incident reports. Enforce facility policies and procedures, including visitor check-in protocols. Provide support in evacuations, lockdowns, and emergency drills. Communicate effectively with residents, staff, and emergency services. Assist with resident safety concerns (e.g., lost residents, suspicious behavior). Maintain a professional and courteous presence at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION /

EXPERIENCE :

High school diploma or equivalent required. Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or a healthcare setting preferred. Valid security license (if required by state regulations). CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Strong observation, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage conflicts effectively. Ability to walk or stand for extended periods and respond quickly to situations. Compassionate demeanor, especially when interacting with older adults.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• This job operates in a health care setting. This role requires regular walking to various locations around the care center. Incumbent may experience exposure to indoor and outdoor environments in all seasons.

• Incumbent may be exposed to virus, disease and infection from patients and specimens in working environment. Incumbent may be required to work nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent may experience traumatic situations, including psychiatric and deceased patients. This may involve assisting in physically demanding situations or emergencies.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing over 50 pounds.
