16.00 - 18.00 DOE About the Role Interfaith Sanctuary is hiring three Guest Support & Safety Team Members to join our team. This position is about more than security. Our team helps create an environment where every guest feels safe, respected, and welcome. Many of the people we serve are experiencing difficult circumstances, and we believe safety and compassion should go hand in hand. As a Guest Support & Safety Team Member, you will provide a visible and reassuring presence while helping protect guests, staff, volunteers, and the facility. You will conduct security checks, monitor cameras and access points, perform bag checks and perimeter checks, and respond to concerns using professionalism, patience, and de-escalation whenever possible. Key Responsibilities Welcome guests with courtesy, patience, and respect. Monitor entrances, exits, common areas, and designated areas of the shelter. Conduct bag and belongings checks in accordance with shelter policies while treating every guest with dignity. Monitor security cameras and surveillance systems. Conduct regular exterior perimeter checks. Check doors, gates, restricted areas, and other designated locations. Monitor activity throughout the facility and surrounding property. Identify and report safety concerns, suspicious activity, property damage, or unauthorized access. Help guests understand and follow shelter guidelines. Respond to conflicts and challenging situations using calm communication and de-escalation techniques. Respond appropriately to emergencies and contact emergency services when necessary. Complete accurate incident reports and security documentation. Maintain guest privacy and confidentiality. Communicate effectively with shelter staff, supervisors, case managers, volunteers, and community partners. Maintain a professional, approachable, and reassuring presence throughout the shift. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is dependable, observant, compassionate, and comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds. We're looking for someone who: Treats everyone with dignity and respect. Remains calm and professional during stressful situations. Has strong communication and listening skills. Can enforce safety policies without being confrontational. Understands the importance of de-escalation. Is comfortable performing walking patrols and perimeter checks. Can monitor security cameras and maintain awareness of multiple areas. Is dependable and able to work independently. Knows when to ask for assistance or involve emergency services. Understands that shelter security is about protecting people while preserving their dignity. Qualifications Previous security, shelter, social services, customer service, hospitality, military, or related experience is helpful but not required. Experience working with vulnerable populations is a plus. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to follow shelter policies and emergency procedures. Ability to document incidents accurately and objectively. Ability to remain alert and attentive throughout the shift. Ability to conduct regular walking patrols and perimeter checks.
