Job Description

Position Overview Vertical Dispensary is transitioning its security operations in-house pursuant to Illinois Public Act 104-0463 (SB 3222). We are seeking professional, vigilant, and customer- focused In-House Security Officers to join our full-time operational team. As an internal security officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining a safe environment for customers and staff while protecting dispensary assets. Unlike third- party contract security, in-house officers are badged dispensary agents with direct operational integration across facility workflows.
Key Responsibilities & Duties Presence & Patrol:
Maintain continuous, visible security coverage on the retail floor, entryways, and facility perimeter during all operating hours.
Access Control & Visitor Escort:
Verify 21+ age/medical credentials at reception. Require sign-in, badges, and active escorts for all visitors, vendors, and contractors entering restricted areas.
Product Escort & Inventory Control:
Enforce dual-agent verification protocols during internal product transfers and assist with end-of-day inventory reconciliation and theft/diversion audits.
Logs & Incident Reporting:
Maintain Daily Security Logs across Open, Mid, and Close shifts. Draft and submit formal written Incident Reports on the same shift for any safety or compliance event.
Emergency Readiness & Escalation:
Test panic alarm buttons weekly across POS stations, reception, and the vault. Utilize verbal de-escalation tactics and contact 911 immediately for unresolvable criminal or safety threats.
Agent Badging:
Maintain active status as an official badged dispensary agent and present physical or electronic badge credentials upon state inspection.
Cross-Functional Retail Support:
As a fully badged dispensary agent, assist with retail operations and customer-facing functions during peak traffic or operational needs as assigned by management.
Operational Flexibility & Multi-Role Expectation Operational Versatility & Cross-Training:
Vertical Dispensary reserves the right to cross-train Security Officers on floor operations, inventory support, and customer service tasks. Employees are expected to learn, maintain proficiency in, and execute retail-based roles and responsibilities from time to time as directed by store leadership to support seamless dispensary operations.
Minimum Qualifications & Eligibility Requirements Age:
Must be at least 21 years old (statutory dispensary agent requirement).
Education:
High school diploma or GED equivalent. Licensing & Credentials Active PERC Card (Permanent Employee Registration Card) issued by an IDFPR-authorized provider, OR eligible to immediately apply for a PERC card upon hire. Valid driver's license or state-issued photo ID.
Training & Continuing Education:
20-Hour IDFPR-Approved Basic Security Training Certificate completed prior to active duty. Completion of 8 hours of site-specific onboarding/SOP training upon hire. Commitment to complete 8 hours of continuing education/refresher training annually.
Background Check:
Clean criminal background check per IDFPR agent badging standards and the Private Detective, Private Alarm, Private Security, Fingerprint Vendor, and Locksmith Act of 2004.
Operational Fit:
Comfortable with an unarmed, non-confrontational security model focused entirely on deterrence, observation, de-escalation, protocol enforcement, and flexible team support.
Pay:
$16.00 - $20.00 per hour
