Overview:
Join a team dedicated to safeguarding critical government operations. As a Protective Security Officer (PSO) , you will provide armed security services at federally protected IRS facilities in support of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Protective Service (FPS) . This is an opportunity to play a vital role in protecting federal employees, visitors, and government property while contributing to the security of essential public services.
Responsibilities:
What You'll Do As a Protective Security Officer, you will: Protect federal personnel, facilities, and assets from security threats Control access to government buildings through credential verification and visitor screening Conduct security patrols and monitor facility activity Detect, assess, and respond to suspicious behavior, security breaches, and emergencies Enforce federal regulations, FPS standards, and site-specific post orders Respond to incidents, alarms, medical emergencies, and other urgent situations Prepare accurate reports and maintain security logs Provide professional customer service while interacting with federal employees, contractors, and visitors Maintain readiness, vigilance, and professionalism in a dynamic security environment
Qualifications:
Two (2) years of armed security, law enforcement, or military experience, or qualifying education/training Meets all FPS Protective Security Officer medical standard qualification requirements Valid Maryland State Police Security Guard Certification Active Maryland Handgun Wear and Carry Permit Current Maryland State Police approved firearms training and weapons qualification Must maintain a professional appearance and comply with all FPS contract uniform and grooming standards as required Must be able to obtain and maintain firearms qualification and all required training certifications (CPR/AED/First Aid, FPS training, and post-specific training) Must be able stand, walk, patrol, and respond to emergencies for extended periods Successfully pass background and drug screening
