Hospital Security Expectations Available shifts: 1 day shift position 8a-8p & 1 night shift position 8p-8a 1. Wear appropriate clothing during scheduled work hours. a. Ensure a 2-way radio and/or other required equipment is carried at all times. b . Carry a flashlight during the hours of dusk to dawn. 2. Be availability by telephone, pager, 2-way radio, and/or electronic mail for immediate communication. 3. Screen individuals and property upon entering the Hospital, including: a. Patients, Visitors, Staff, and Personal property (including property donated to the hospital for patience use). 4. Ensue established procedures for screening are followed and consist of, but not limited to utilizing the following: Hand-Held Metal Detectors (HHMD) and Walk-Through Metal Detectors (WTMD). 5. Process patient admissions. 6. Record all patients, staff, and visitors entering and/or exiting the Hospital. a. Issue identification badges as needed, including: i. Recording the individual's name; ii. Issuing a badge; and iii. Collecting the badge upon exiting the Hospital. 7. Escort visitors, patients, contractors, law enforcement, staff and others within the Hospital as needed. a. Monitor all staff, patients and visitors who enter the Hospital. 8. Escort employees and/or visitors to their automobile when they express concerns for their personal safety. 9. Search for contraband on the Hospital property including on patient units as requested. a. Follow established procedures when contraband is discovered. 10. Respond to emergencies when directed by the Hospital emergency paging system and/or Hospital staff, including but not limited to: a. Psychiatric and medical emergencies, Securing the immediate area, and Assisting as requested until event has concluded. 11. Monitor the building alarm system and respond by: a. Participating in building evacuation and directing emergency response personnel to appropriate building locations in the event of, including but not limited to: Fire, theft, Vandalism, Bomb threats, Workplace violence, Terrorist activity, Medical emergency, Psychiatric emergency, and Any other events that threatens the safety of individuals and/or property. 12. Attending Hospital campus emergency planning and training events, as requested, and be knowledgeable of emergency operations procedures. 13. Monitor the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) system including the Hospital's interior, exterior, and CCTV site. a . Take appropriate actions if suspicious or illegal activities are detected. b. Retrieve and playing back footage upon the Hospital request. 14. Monitor Hospital control points such as primary and secondary entrances and accessible windows. 15. Immediately report illegally parked vehicles on Hospital grounds to Hospital Administration. 16. Assist the Hospital staff by during investigations, disciplinary actions, or interviews upon request. 17. Perform routine and random foot patrol of Hospital interior and exterior, checking for safety and security issues, and energy conservation, including: a. Monitoring Hospital gates, windows, doors, lights, and State-owned vehicles. b. Providing security presence in the Hospital parking lots at times when an appropriate level of vigilance is needed, including but not limited to: Staff shift change, Suspected unauthorized use of Hospital areas, and Areas at the Hospital locations with prior incidences. c. Documenting reportable activity as required. i. Ensure reports are accurate with clear, concise description of events and are submitted timely. d. Handle incidents according to the Hospital requirements and guidelines i. Immediately notifying the Hospital staff of safety/security incidents. General Expectations 1. Attend Hospital orientation and training as required. 2. Remove light snow up to two inches (2") in depth. 3. Monitor snow and ice accumulation at all primary entrances and egress enter/exit locations. 4. Assist with snow removal of State-owned vehicles intended for Hospital staff and patients use during 2nd and 3rd shift snow events; generally, between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. 5. Provide regularly scheduled security staff breaks and relief coverage and assist during emergencies to Hospital switchboard operators/operations staff including unexpected absences of Hospital staff. a. Answer and redirect incoming calls as needed. 6. Adhere to all applicable laws, policies and procedures related to operating a State/Hospital owned or leased motor vehicle. Utilize State owned or leased vehicles for: a. Emergencies, such as assisting Hospital staff to transport a non-critical person to a medical care facility. b . Assisting in the transfer of Hospital staff and patients to an alternate-care facility. c. Transporting staff and/or patients to/from work due to a vehicle breakdown and/or adverse weather, upon request.
