SEC SHIELD

is building a dedicated campus safety team for Muskegon Community College and is seeking professional, service-oriented individuals to join us as Security Officers. This will be a part time position for scheduled weekend, afternoon and night shifts, filling open weekday shifts (all shifts), and opportunity for special event hours. This is more than a traditional security position. Our Security Officers are visible, engaged members of the college community who help create an environment where students, faculty, staff, and visitors feel safe and supported. Muskegon Community College is shifting its campus safety program toward the protection of people through prevention, presence, and relationships, and we are looking for officers who want to be part of a community, not simply walk a post. What You'll Do As a Security Officer, you will support the day-to-day safety and security of Muskegon Community College facilities, including the Main Campus, Sturrus Technology Center, and Ottawa Center.

Responsibilities include:

Maintain a visible, approachable, and professional presence throughout assigned campus buildings and grounds Conduct regular foot and vehicle patrols of buildings, parking areas, and campus grounds Respond to emergencies, alarms, suspicious activity, and calls for service Work collaboratively with law enforcement, fire, and EMS during incidents Provide safety escorts, vehicle jump starts, lockout assistance, and other support to members of the campus community Monitor security cameras, building access, alarms, and other College safety systems Assist with locking and unlocking buildings and conducting regular inspections to help ensure facilities remain secure Identify and report suspicious activity, safety concerns, and potential hazards Support special events including athletics, performances, commencement, and community events Assist with traffic control, access management, and crowd management when needed Help enforce College parking, access, and campus policies with an emphasis on professionalism, education, courtesy, and voluntary compliance Complete clear, accurate incident reports and daily activity documentation Provide First Aid, CPR, AED, and Stop the Bleed response when necessary Who We're Looking For We are looking for mature, dependable professionals who communicate well, exercise sound judgment, and understand the importance of providing both security and service in an educational environment. The right candidate is someone who can build positive relationships while remaining alert and prepared to respond when a situation requires action.

Successful candidates should have:

Strong judgment and situational awareness The ability to remain calm and take appropriate action during emergencies Strong interpersonal and communication skills The ability to interact professionally with students, faculty, staff, visitors, vendors, and members of the public The ability to de-escalate challenging or threatening situations Strong written communication skills for incident reports and other documentation The physical ability to conduct regular foot and vehicle patrols across a large campus in varying West Michigan weather conditions A valid Michigan driver's license and acceptable driving record The ability to successfully complete required criminal background, fingerprinting, driving record, and registry checks The ability to meet applicable State of Michigan security licensing requirements Prior experience in security, law enforcement, military service, education, customer service, or another public-facing environment is a plus, but equally important is the ability to work well with people and contribute positively to the campus community. Emergency and critical incident response De-escalation strategies Active violence response Behavioral threat assessment fundamentals First Aid, CPR, AED, and Stop the Bleed Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) intervention Fire extinguisher use Professional conduct and report writing Privacy, confidentiality, FERPA, Title IX, and Clery Act requirements Site-specific training on Muskegon Community College procedures and systems Training is provided through live instruction from SEC SHIELD's certified instructors, supervised field training, online learning, and continuing in-service training throughout the year.
