Job Description

HOURS WORKED
Assigned shifts during set hours, including evenings and weekends; some daytime office support hours as scheduled. The Security Officer helps maintain a safe and secure environment for students, employees, and visitors on campus. Working scheduled shifts under the direction of the Security Manager, the Security Officer's primary responsibilities are patrolling campus, responding to incidents, enforcing campus policies, ticketing vehicles, and completing accurate incident reports. The role also provides front-line office and administrative support to the Campus Security function. This is an hourly position that requires a commitment to on-campus safety and security and excellent customer service to all members of the campus community.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
This position reports to the Security Manager, or other staff fulfilling this role.
SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS
None. May provide on-shift direction to Student Security Team members during patrols and events.
EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION
Works from an office at Crown College, with patrolling of campus grounds, buildings, and facilities. Equipment used includes, but is not limited to, a computer and required programs, printer, copy machine, calculator, and other equipment as the position requires, such as radios and other communication equipment. The Security Officer must be able to qualify as a Crown College Approved Driver to operate vehicles, and possibly Facilities Management Services motorized vehicles.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Patrol & Incident Response:
Patrol the campus on foot and by vehicle during assigned shifts, ensuring the security and safety of property and persons Monitor security cameras and respond to security incidents and calls during scheduled hours Identify intruders, recognize safety violations, and report unusual, suspicious, or dangerous circumstances; remove safety hazards or report them to the appropriate supervisor or local law enforcement Complete thorough, accurate incident reports, including reviewing video footage to verify details, and escalate to the Security Manager or outside law enforcement, emergency personnel, or other campus authority as needed Assist with campus emergency situations and assist local law enforcement as necessary; help with crisis communication using the Regroup Mass Alert system as directed Respond to the intrusion of wild or stray animals on campus and contact authorities
Enforcement & Ticketing:
Enforce campus policies and procedures, including but not limited to traffic, parking, alcohol, drug use, and harassment, as well as applicable federal, state, and local laws pertaining to the campus environment Issue vehicle tickets for parking and traffic violations and document them according to established process; refer appeals to the Security Manager Take complaints from employees, students, and the public; document them and route them to the Security Manager, communicating outcomes to the parties involved Communicate infractions to the appropriate campus departments
Office & Administrative Support:
Provide front-line office support, including issuing and handing out parking permits and assisting with vehicle registration intake Respond to walk-in questions and assist members of the campus community at the security office Assist the Security Manager with documentation for the annual Clery Report, Consumer Compliance Report, and fire reports
Events, Coverage & Service:
Assist in traffic and crowd control at designated campus events and activities, either on or off campus (e.g., Commencement) Fill in for Student Security Team shifts as needed and provide a security presence during student breaks Provide excellent customer service to all members of the campus community Attend and participate in departmental training, staff meetings, and Student Security Team meetings Other duties as assigned by the Security Manager
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
High school diploma or equivalent Experience in safety, security, customer service, or a related field Valid driver's license and ability to qualify as a Crown College Approved Driver Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including clear and accurate incident report writing Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a diverse population Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information Ability to handle the physical demands of the position, including walking and standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 pounds Ability to use technology such as security cameras, computer systems, and two-way radios Must pass a background check Agreement and personal alignment with the Crown College Statement of Faith and Community Covenant

Stamina to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time Hand and arm (or equivalent) dexterity adequate to allow for safe use of equipment and extensive use of a keyboard for data entry Vocal strength to speak clearly in interactions with others Vision adequate for frequent viewing of computer and camera screens and safe use and supervision of equipment and materials Body strength to frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior experience in campus security, safety, or law enforcement Coursework or a degree in criminal justice, criminology, law enforcement, or a related field Experience writing incident reports or working with security cameras and access systems Conflict resolution or de-escalation training
