JOB TITLE & POSITION OVERVIEW
Position:
Event Security Officer The Newton Theatre is seeking a dependable, level-headed, and customer-service-oriented Event Security & Guest Services Officer to join our event staff team. This part-time, event-based position typically involves 4-8 shifts a month, with most shifts lasting approximately 5 hours. The Event Security & Guest Services Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for patrons, performers, staff, and volunteers. Successful candidates will possess strong observational skills, sound judgment, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to remain calm and professional in dynamic situations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with the orderly flow of patrons entering and exiting the venue. Monitor audience behavior and address issues in a professional and respectful manner. Staff entrances, exits, lobby areas, and designated security posts. Help enforce venue policies and procedures. Respond appropriately to disturbances, medical incidents, or emergency situations. Assist with artist security and backstage access control. De-escalate conflicts and resolve patron issues whenever possible. Prepare accurate written incident reports when necessary. Work cooperatively with venue management, local law enforcement, EMS, and fire personnel.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Current New Jersey SORA Certification. Minimum 1 year of security, public safety, military, law enforcement, hospitality, or related experience. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure. Strong observational and problem-solving abilities. Reliable transportation and punctual attendance. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the event schedule.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working in live entertainment, performing arts, sporting events, or other public assembly venues. Current or former law enforcement, military, EMS, or fire service experience. CPR, First Aid, and AED certification. Experience preparing incident reports and witness statements.
COMPENSATION
Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
