Job Description

Description STATUS:
PART-TIME, NON-EXEMPT, HOURLY
The safety & security officer will ensure the safety and well-being of College students, faculty, staff and its guests. The officer will work closely with all campus offices and departments to assist with safety and security needs. It is preferred that all security personnel at Lake Erie College have basic security certification or basic peace officer certification.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Escorts students, faculty, staff, and guests to and from campus buildings when requested. Patrols campus by foot and by College vehicle routinely throughout shift to prevent unwanted visitors and crimes (extensive stair climbing). Locks and unlocks campus buildings according to the facilities schedule. Answers the security phone in a timely and polite fashion. Exhibits strong customer service and professionalism throughout work shift. Completes Incident Report forms when campus crimes, medical emergencies, maintenance concerns and others are reported. Completes the duty log of evening activities. Assesses campus parking and administers tickets when appropriate. Contacts local emergency services when appropriate. Assists with educational programming related to personal safety. Provides accurate information to students, staff, faculty and guests. Serves as a member of the campus emergency response team. Any other duties as assigned by the director of safety & security. Qualifications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED, a minimum age of 25 and a valid driver's license. Basic security or peace officer certification. The ability to think quickly and react calmly and professionally in stressful situations. Strong work ethic and excellent communication, telephone and computer skills. The ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Previous work in security preferred and successful completion of training sessions. Share job details to
