Job Description

Job Overview The Overnight Security Officer is responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the hotel, guests, and team members during overnight hours. As a visible presence on the property, this position helps enforce safety protocols, responds to incidents, and ensures the hotel remains secure and operational throughout the night. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Surveillance and Property Patrol Conduct routine patrols of the interior and exterior of the hotel to deter and identify suspicious activity. Monitor the property for safety hazards, security concerns, and unauthorized individuals. Ensure all public areas, parking lots, entrances, exits, and restricted areas remain secure. Guest and Team Member Safety Respond promptly and professionally to security concerns involving guests or team members. Assist in de-escalating conflicts and disturbances while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor. Provide escorts for guests or team members when requested. Access Control Monitor hotel entrances and exits during overnight hours. Verify guest or visitor access when appropriate and ensure only authorized individuals enter restricted areas. Follow hotel procedures for issuing visitor access or credentials when applicable. Incident Response and Documentation Respond to emergencies including fire alarms, medical incidents, suspicious activity, or other safety-related situations. Complete detailed and accurate incident reports and maintain daily security logs. Notify management and emergency responders when necessary. Collaboration Work closely with Front Desk, Engineering, Housekeeping, and hotel leadership to support safe overnight operations. Assist other departments as needed while maintaining security priorities. Support opening and closing procedures, including securing designated areas of the property. Property Integrity Inspect doors, windows, stairwells, emergency exits, and restricted areas to ensure they are properly secured. Report maintenance, safety, or security concerns such as broken locks, lighting outages, trip hazards, or damaged equipment. Emergency Procedures Follow established emergency procedures during evacuations, severe weather, medical emergencies, or other incidents. Maintain knowledge of emergency exits, first aid procedures, and hotel safety protocols. Guest Service Serve as a welcoming and professional presence for late-arriving guests. Provide directions, answer basic questions, and help create a safe and positive guest experience while maintaining security responsibilities. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous security, military, law enforcement, or hospitality security experience preferred. Familiarity with security systems, surveillance equipment, and incident reporting procedures. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent observational skills, sound judgment, and attention to detail. Ability to remain calm and make effective decisions during emergencies. Basic computer proficiency, including incident reporting software and Microsoft Office applications. Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. Physical Requirements Ability to walk and stand for extended periods throughout the shift. Ability to climb stairs frequently. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds. Ability to respond quickly during emergency situations. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Working Conditions This position requires overnight, weekend, and holiday availability. The Overnight Security Officer may work independently for extended periods and must be comfortable making sound decisions with minimal supervision. The role requires frequent movement throughout the property and the ability to respond effectively to emergency situations at any time during the shift.
