Job Description

Part-time Saturday Overnight Security OfficerWesttown School seeks an experienced Security Officer to work part-time on Saturdays from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Additional shifts may be available. Security Officers are responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the school community, all buildings, and the surrounding campus. Security Officers provide on-campus security through regular rounds and camera surveillance. As essential school personnel, Security Officers are expected to be available during inclement weather and other school-closing situations. Westtown School is an independent Quaker pre-K to 12 college-preparatory day and boarding school located in suburban West Chester, PA, approximately 30 miles from Philadelphia. On a beautiful 600-acre campus, Westtown offers state-of-the-art facilities where our committed faculty and staff inspire and prepare our students to be stewards and leaders of a better world.

Essential ResponsibilitiesProvide a safe and secure environment for students, employees, campus residents, and guests;Responsible for maintaining the safety and security of all campus buildings and grounds through regular rounds, either on foot or in a motorized vehicle; Monitor surveillance camera system;Investigate and report unsafe conditions and suspicious activity;Develop and maintain positive and professional relations with students, parents, faculty, staff, and visitors;Respond promptly to all alarms and calls for assistance;Provide basic first aid and medical attention as appropriate;Complete a log of daily activities and provide pass-on information to department personnel;Notify police, fire department, and appropriate school officials of any situation requiring immediate attention or emergency response; Participate in departmental meetings and required training;Other duties as assigned.

QualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalent required; some college is preferredCurrent CPR/AED certification requiredEMT certification is desired but not requiredValid Drivers License and clean driving historyPrior security or related experience is preferredMust be well-organized and able to prioritize workExcellent observational skills and attention to detailExcellent interpersonal skills Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleaguesAble to work independently without close supervision Calm under pressure and able to respond to a variety of situationsA commitment to enhancing an inclusive school community based on cultural competence, commitment to social justice, and respect for all voicesEnthusiasm for the mission of Westtown School and the schools Quaker valuesRequired clearances include PA Criminal Background Check, Child Abuse Certification, and FBI fingerprints.

Physical RequirementsMust be able to patrol the property and access all areas quicklySufficient vision (with correction) to read and observe at a distanceSufficient hearing (with correction) to perceive information at normal spoken word levels Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time, a golf cart can be used for campus transportation between buildingsAbility to do considerable walking to conduct rounds and safety inspectionsSufficient stamina to work outside in bad weather conditions when requiredProlonged periods of sitting at a desk and monitoring surveillance equipmentMust be able to ascend and descend stairsMay require climbing, standing for long periods, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 25 pounds, bending, and repetitive motions.
