The School Marshal plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, orderly, and responsive school environment. Qualifications Education/Certification High school diploma or GED required Completion of the 80-hour School Marshal training through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Valid License to Carry (LTC) issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety Ability to pass required physical (including vision and hearing), psychological, and drug screenings as determined by the Chief of Police Experience Experience in school-based security preferred Background in law enforcement or military strongly preferred Special Knowledge/Skills Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-stress situations Strong observation, communication, and problem-solving skills Commitment to maintaining a safe, disciplined, and supportive campus environment Major Responsibilities Maintain positive, professional relationships with campus staff and administrators Respond to security concerns, incidents, and campus disruptions Patrol campus grounds and facilities to prevent and detect criminal activity Monitor and ensure all exterior doors and access points remain secure Identify safety concerns and recommend improvements (visibility, supervision, security equipment) Notify emergency responders when necessary Prepare detailed incident and offense reports Maintain accurate security records and documentation Support campus administrators during incidents and events Provide escort and protection for district personnel as needed Assist with security planning for campus events and activities Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and community members, including during emotionally charged situations Follow all district policies, safety procedures, and applicable laws Participate in required training, meetings, and professional development Working Conditions Mental Demands Maintain emotional control under pressure Communicate clearly both verbally and in writing Make quick, effective decisions independently Physical Demands Prolonged standing, walking, and climbing Ability to respond to and manage physical altercations if necessary Operate a motor vehicle across district locations Work outdoors in varying weather conditions Environment May be exposed to stressful or hazardous situations Ability to work flexible hours, including being on call as needed Equipment Used Firearms (as authorized under School Marshal guidelines) Radios, alarm systems, and security equipment Standard office equipment (computer, printer, copier) Why This Role Matters This isn't just security.
