This position combines campus safety responsibilities with customer service, emergency response, problem-solving, and community engagement. Officers serve as trusted resources who respond to emergencies, assist community members, and help ensure the campus remains safe and welcoming. We welcome applicants with a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Experience in security, customer service, hospitality, military service, emergency response, facilities, or higher education is beneficial but not required. Training will be provided; however, the position requires the ability to exercise independent judgment, make timely decisions, and follow College policies and Standard Operating Procedures. The Security Officer reports to the Director of Security. This is a full-time position consisting of four 10-hour shifts per week (40 hours), typically from 6:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. Employees can generally expect a consistent schedule. Key Responsibilities Community Safety Patrol campus buildings and grounds while maintaining a visible, welcoming presence. Assist students, employees, and visitors with directions, escorts, lockouts, and other service requests. Secure and unlock buildings and identify safety hazards or maintenance concerns. Emergency Response Respond to medical, behavioral, fire, weather, and other emergencies. Coordinate with campus departments and public safety partners. Activate emergency notifications and assist during critical incidents. Operations & Administration Complete accurate typed reports and preliminary investigations. Conduct monthly safety inspections and equipment checks. Perform dispatcher duties and other related responsibilities as assigned. Who Succeeds in This Role? You must have had 2 or fewer moving violations in the past 5 years. Ability to patrol campus on foot, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and perform the physical duties of the position.
