ABOUT THE POSITION

New Light Investigations LLC is seeking a dependable Surveillance Investigator to conduct stationary and mobile surveillance assignments throughout Connecticut. This is a part-time, 1099 independent contractor position with assignments offered on an as-needed basis. There is no guaranteed number of hours or assignments. We are seeking candidates with prior surveillance or investigative experience who understand the fundamentals of discreet field surveillance, mobile following, video documentation, accurate note-taking, and professional report writing.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct stationary and mobile surveillance in a discreet and professional manner. Locate and positively identify subjects, residences, vehicles, workplaces, and other relevant locations. Maintain visual contact with subjects during mobile surveillance while operating safely and lawfully. Obtain clear, steady, and relevant video and photographic documentation of subject activity. Maintain accurate, chronological notes throughout each surveillance assignment. Prepare clear and detailed surveillance reports documenting observations, activities, locations, and investigative results. Upload surveillance video, photographs, reports, and other case materials within required deadlines. Maintain regular communication with the assigned Case Manager and promptly report significant developments. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding clients, subjects, assignments, investigative methods, and case information.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE A

minimum of three years of professional surveillance or comparable investigative field experience is preferred. Experience conducting insurance, workers' compensation, liability, domestic, criminal, or general investigative surveillance is a plus. Practical knowledge of stationary and mobile surveillance techniques. Ability to conduct assignments independently with limited supervision. Strong observational skills, attention to detail, and sound investigative judgment. Ability to remain alert, patient, and discreet during extended periods of stationary surveillance and inactivity. Ability to safely conduct mobile surveillance and obtain clear, usable video documentation without unnecessarily compromising the investigation. Ability to prepare clear, accurate, and professional surveillance reports. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Dependable, punctual, organized, responsive, and able to meet assignment and reporting deadlines. Professional discretion, integrity, and commitment to confidentiality. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving history. Ability to successfully complete a criminal background screening. Must meet applicable requirements to perform investigative work under a licensed private investigation agency.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

As a 1099 independent contractor, investigators must provide and maintain the equipment necessary to complete assigned surveillance work, including: Reliable, properly insured, and discreet vehicle suitable for stationary and mobile surveillance, with legally compliant window tinting. Reliable laptop computer capable of preparing reports and uploading investigative materials. Reliable smartphone with email, navigation, Internet, and communication capabilities. Professional-quality video camera capable of producing clear and steady video documentation. Adequate batteries, chargers, memory cards, storage devices, and other equipment necessary to complete surveillance assignments. Investigators are responsible for maintaining their equipment in good working condition and securely handling confidential reports, photographs, video, and other investigative materials.

SCHEDULE AND AVAILABILITY

Surveillance assignments may begin early in the morning and continue for several hours depending on subject activity and client requirements. Applicants should have reasonable flexibility for assignments involving: Early mornings Daytime and evening surveillance Weekends Occasional holidays Extended surveillance assignments Travel throughout Connecticut Assignments will be offered based on case volume, geographic location, investigator availability, experience, performance, and demonstrated reliability. Accepted assignments are expected to be completed professionally and within established deadlines, with appropriate communication maintained throughout the investigation and all required reports and evidence submitted promptly.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience conducting both stationary and mobile surveillance. Experience preparing professional surveillance reports. Familiarity with investigative case-management or report-upload systems. Experience conducting basic social media and Internet research. Familiarity with Connecticut roadways and communities. Bilingual or multilingual ability is a plus.

COMPENSATION

Competitive hourly compensation based on experience and qualifications. Mileage and authorized case-related expenses may be reimbursed in accordance with company policy.
