Position overview: The Internal Security Investigator position serves as a lead investigator of incidents and complaints of administrative and criminal nature for various areas and agencies. This covers all facilities and their satellite facilities, along with juvenile facilities, and parole offices. The ideal candidate should be able to interview individuals in custody, employees, and management staff to solve and gather facts to conclude cases in a timelymanner. Essential Functions Conducts investigations involving highly responsible and confidential cases regarding alleged violations of security threats, Department Rules or Administrative Directives or criminal offenses by Individuals in Custody, agency/staff, students, or parolees Interviews persons and compiles pertinent investigation data and information to be analyzed and forwarded for administrative action or inclusion in the Corrections Intelligence Database Writes comprehensive reports identifying the facts and findings in investigations and reviews all reports for clarity, accuracy, and completeness prior to submittal to the Division of Intelligence & Internal Investigations Keeps a chronological log of cases assigned to be investigated for periodic review by Unit Supervisor Provides oversight and guidance to facility Internal Affairs staff regarding investigations of allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment Serves as liaison with other Department of Corrections Investigators, State's Attorneys, federal, in-state, out-of-state and local law enforcement agencies Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above Minimum Qualifications Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college, with coursework in law, government, liberal arts, history, or business or public administration, plus four (4) years of professional experience in law enforcement investigatory work or a related field;ORRequires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, with major coursework in law, government, liberal arts, history, or business or public administration, plus two (2) years professional experience in law enforcement investigatory work or a related field;ORRequires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of a master's degree, with major course work in law, government, liberal arts, history, or business or public administration plus one (1) year professional experience in law enforcement investigatory work or a related field;ORRequires completion of the F.B.I National Academy or comparable law enforcement schooling, plus two (2) years of professional experience in law enforcement investigatory work or a related field. Preferred Qualifications Prefers at least three (3) years of experience conducting investigations of allegations of sexual abuse in a correctional setting, including interviewing persons, and gathering and compiling pertinent investigative/information data Prefers at least three (3) years of experience recognizing and gathering appropriate statements, exhibits andmaterials acceptable for use in prosecution of cases or disciplinary actions Prefers at least three (3) years of experience working in a correctional setting Prefers at least three (3) years of experience preparing case reports for referral (submitted to States Attorneyor facility administrator) Prefers at least three (3) years of experience interpreting and applying State statutes, rules and regulationsconcerning conflict of interest of malfeasance of office Prefers at least three (3) years of experience in the processing of crime scenes and the identification,collection, and handling of evidence Prefers at least one (1) year of experience submitting cases and testifying in court Intermediate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook, or similar software Conditions of Employment Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate Requires appropriate, valid driver's license Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime.
