Job Description
Position Summary The firearms cataloger and in-take specialist is responsible for receiving, inspecting, documenting, organizing, and cataloging firearms and related items for auction. This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate inventory records, ensuring firearms are handled safely and securely, and preparing detailed catalog descriptions with thorough research. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, with an extensive knowledge of firearms, comfortable working with customers and estate representatives, and able to follow all applicable company procedures and legal requirements. Responsibilities
- Identify the make, model, caliber or gauge, action type, serial number, barrel length, and other relevant characteristics of each firearm.
- Research firearms to help ensure accurate descriptions, identification, and historical context.
- Write detailed, clear, and accurate catalog descriptions highlighting key attributes.
- Document the overall condition of each firearm, including visible wear, damage, modifications, or notable features.
- Identify and catalog accessories, scopes, magazines, ammunition-related items, cases, and other related property as directed.
- Assist in organizing firearms for cataloging, photography, and online listings.
- Assist with auction setup, preview days, auction day, buyer pickup, and other firearms department duties, as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and secure firearms cataloging area.
- Follow all company safety, security, recordkeeping, and chain-of-custody procedures.
- Receive firearms and related items delivered to the auction facility.
- Safely handle and inspect all incoming firearms to verify their condition and identify basic characteristics.
- Confirm that each firearm is unloaded and handled according to established safety procedures.
- Record customer, consignor, estate, or delivery information as required.
- Create and maintain accurate intake records for each firearm and related accessory.
- Securely store firearms in designated areas. Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of modern and antique firearms.
- Proven experience in researching, cataloging, or apprising firearms.
- Ability to research firearms utilizing in-house library and online resources.
- Legible handwriting and strong commitment to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills to write accurate, engaging catalog descriptions.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning as part of a team.
- Knowledge of ATF/FFL regulations, preferred.
- Commitment to strict compliance and safety standards.
- Ability to safely lift, move, and organize firearms, cases, and related auction items.
- Previous experience with firearms, auctions, gun shops, sporting goods, collections, or related industries is preferred.
