Job Description

Job Responsibilities •
THIS IS A SCDPPPS INTERNAL POSTING ONLY
•FTO will serve as the primary trainer for new Agents and OSS. Office location TBD. Under general supervision of the Field Training Officer (FTO) Manager, oversees the On-The-Job training for newly hired Agents and Offender Supervision Specialists (OSS); coordinates and assists with training, logistics, and scheduling of PPP Basic and Class-1 certification through SCCJA, and any other training required for newly hired Agents and OSS; Develops and conducts complex, multi-day training programs for staff; Assists with the development and coordination of training materials in preparation for scheduled training classes, to include lesson designs; and works with other FTOs to make continuous improvements to the FTO program. Involves working on some holidays and after hours, as needed. Travel between county offices. Minimum and Additional Requirements A bachelor's degree with at least 15 semester hours in social or behavioral science courses and experience in probation and parole work. An associate degree and two (2) years of military or certified law enforcement experience or a high school diploma and four (4) years of military or certified law enforcement experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree with at least 15 semester hours in social or behavioral science courses. A minimum of 3 years employment with the Department; eighteen (18) months of which shall be as an Agent.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Certification by the Law Enforcement Training Council in accordance with 23-23-40 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina 1976.
NOTE:
Must be currently Class 1 (C -1) certified law enforcement officer from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must obtain Basic Instructor Certification and Field Training Officer qualification through the SCCJA. Must attend all mandatory in-service training as appropriate to maintain certifications and upgrade the FTOs knowledge and skills on an ongoing basis. Preferred Qualifications A bachelor's degree in criminal justice, social work, psychology, sociology, education, counseling or other social/behavior sciences or a bachelor's degree which includes at least 15 credit hours in the aforementioned disciplines and completion of three (3) years experience in criminal justice, counseling, or related professional human service work. Additional Comments •FTO will serve as the primary trainer for new Agents and OSS. Office location TBD.
