Duties Conduct thorough screening of passengers, baggage, cargo, and carry-on items using X-ray machines and manual inspection techniques to detect prohibited items. Interpret security policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance with all transportation security regulations. Perform background checks on individuals as part of security clearance processes to prevent threats. Utilize de-escalation techniques and conflict management skills to handle difficult situations calmly and effectively. Operate airport security equipment accurately, including X-ray scanners and metal detectors, while maintaining attention to detail. Assist passengers with in-person customer service by providing clear instructions, answering questions, and ensuring a positive experience. Follow strict protocols for heavy lifting and manual handling when managing luggage or security equipment during screening processes. Apply emotional regulation techniques to maintain composure during high-pressure scenarios or disruptive incidents. Enforce compliance with airport security protocols, including performing routine checks and monitoring CCTV surveillance for suspicious activity. Support airport staff by performing routine safety checks, conducting perimeter inspections, and assisting in emergency response coordination. Desirable Certifications Current Incumbent Checkpoint/Checked Baggage Certified TSO Must also have: Completed all TSA-required initial certification training. All required screening certifications. Completed recurrent and specialized training as assigned. Strong command of English language skills for clear communication and report writing. Knowledge of aviation operations and airport security protocols is required. Ability to interpret policies accurately and apply them consistently in daily tasks. Experience in manual handling, heavy lifting, or physical tasks related to transportation security screening is preferred. Demonstrated customer service skills with a focus on delivering a positive passenger experience. Proficiency in X-ray interpretation and understanding of standard operating procedures (SOPs). Ability to perform background checks as part of security clearance processes. Excellent emotional regulation techniques to manage stressful situations professionally.
