Job Description:
Join a first-of-its-kind hybrid-electric aircraft program and play a central role in shaping how next-generation aircraft are certified and introduced into service. This is a rare opportunity to shape the certification path for hybrid-electric aviation at a pivotal stage of development. As the lead certification engineer within a lean, highly technical team, you'll own technical engagement with the FAA, drive certification planning across both the aircraft and propulsion system, and influence key program decisions alongside executive leadership. Unlike larger aerospace organizations, this role offers an unusual level of ownership and visibility. You won't be supporting a narrow subsystem or working within layers of process - you'll be the person helping define how hybrid-electric aircraft are certified and brought into commercial operation. You'll join a well-funded company with a clear path toward certification, a multi-billion-dollar commercial pipeline, and a team working at the forefront of sustainable aviation technology. What the role offers Lead certification activities for one of the industry's most advanced hybrid-electric aircraft programs Direct ownership of FAA technical engagement across Part 23 aircraft and propulsion certification activities The opportunity to influence certification strategy, requirements management, and compliance methodology from the ground up Close collaboration with senior technical leadership in a small, high-impact engineering organization A highly visible role with significant influence over both technical and program direction Competitive compensation, meaningful equity, and long-term growth potential within a rapidly advancing aerospace program A flexible 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off What you'll be doing Lead technical submissions to the FAA, including certification plans, compliance documentation, test plans, and analytical reports Drive development and negotiation of certification basis and means of compliance documentation Develop and manage certification requirements from aircraft level down to systems and components Evaluate and implement requirements management tooling and processes to support program growth Support and mentor additional certification engineers as the organization expands Work cross-functionally with engineering leadership to guide certification strategy across the full aircraft program Ideal background 8-15+ years of experience in FAA aircraft systems certification engineering Expert knowledge of G- 1 certification basis, G- 2 means of compliance, and FAA Part 23 compliance matrices (Subparts B-G) Experience leading direct FAA technical engagement and certification planning Familiarity with
ARP4754, ARP4761, G1/G2
processes, and requirements management tools such as DOORS or JAMA Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, highly collaborative startup environment with significant ownership
