After School Program Manager Brooklyn Children's Museum (BCM) is the world's first children's museum and a pioneer in the field of informal learning. Inspired by the energy and diversity of its borough, BCM's programs and exhibits engage children between the ages of 2 and 10, and their caregivers, through play- based learning at the intersection of culture, the arts, and science. The Museum serves 300,000 visitors annually and operates in 130,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space. POSITION SUMMARY
Brooklyn Children's Museum, the world's first museum for children is currently seeking motivated Lead Educators for our After School Program at PS 189 in Brooklyn. The program operates from 2:00pm to 6:00pm Monday through Friday and serves children grades K-5. Shifts increase to 6-8 hours a day July through mid-August as we begin our summer program. This year our summer program will operate Monday through Friday at PS 189 July to August 2026. Training and planning for the summer begins in mid-June 2026. The ideal candidate is energetic, patient, and self-motivated, with a great love for children and a passion for creating engaging programming.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
  • Developing and implementing units of 7-12 week, project based curricula for grades K-5. Units are developed on a quarterly basis. Program Areas include STEM, Physical Fitness, Mindfulness, Art, Music, and Social/Emotional Awareness.
  • Supervising children during day trips and field trips to various cultural institutions and recreational activities in New York City.
  • Compiling student work into a final project that can be presented to parents and other stake holders.
GENERAL SCHEDULE
Part time; 11:30am-6pm Monday through Thursday and 8:00am-6pm on Fridays for Summer 2pm-6pm Monday through Friday with additional time for trainings and routine staff meetings during the school year.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma
  • 2-4 years of experience working with children ages 5 - 12 in a childcare setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, and serve as mentor and leader to Group Leaders/Assistant Educators.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to engage with diverse young audiences with patience, understanding, and creativity.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement lesson plans with clear learning objectives and measurable outcomes.
COMPENSATION
The hourly compensation is $22 per hour paid every other week.
