Lead Housekeeper, 2nd Shift Position Details Position Information Position Type Professional Staff Faculty Track Position Title Lead Housekeeper, 2nd Shift Employment Status Full Time Months 12 Campus Biddeford, ME Description The Lead Housekeeper provides direct leadership and guidance to a team of Housekeepers in designated buildings across campus. This position ensures a high level of cleanliness and quality of service is achieved and maintained. This includes overseeing the work activities of Housekeepers, inspecting their work, investigating any feedback related to housekeeping, and assisting staff with daily duties as required. This position also assists with interviewing applicants, training staff, addressing performance concerns, and monitoring supplies. The Lead is responsible for participating in and completing all safety initiatives appropriate to the position. This role serves as a model in providing high levels of service and maintaining a professional and friendly demeanor. In the absence of the Manager of Housekeeping, the Lead may assume some additional managerial responsibilities of the department. This is a 2nd shift position, working afternoons and evenings, Monday through Friday. This role may also participate in the weekend on-call phone rotation for Housekeeping Leads to respond to emergencies and urgent operational issues. The anticipated rate of pay is $20.50 per hour, with an additional $1.00 per hour shift differential, for a total of $21.50 per hour, annualized to $44,720. UNE Benefits Overview Responsibilities Leadership and Oversight:
Lead, direct, and support housekeeping staff across assigned buildings. Train and onboard new employees. Assign and coordinate work assignments, including CMMS, and schedules. Monitor work in progress and inspect completed work for quality standards. Address employee concerns, performance issues, and minor disciplinary actions. Review and approve staff timesheets. Respond to and help resolve housekeeping-related complaints. Ensure adherence to safety standards and regulatory compliance (OSHA, MSDS, HAZCOM). Ensure staff understand, follow, and are held accountable to UNE and Campus Services policies and procedures. Assist with hiring and performance reviews. Maintain supply inventory and ensure adequate quality and levels. Model professional and customer service-oriented behavior and coach staff to meet and maintain those standards.
Operational and Cleaning:
Perform routine cleaning of electrical, heating, vents and fixtures. Coordinate and carry out specialized custodial/maintenance functions such as refinishing floors and project cleaning. Assist with snow removal near building entrances. Clean floors: vacuum, sweep, dust mop, wash, strip, wax and buff. Shampoo carpets. Wash windows, walls, chalkboards, and trash cans. Dust furniture, fixtures, and woodwork. Empty trash receptacles and pick up litter in and around buildings. Clean, sanitize and stock bathrooms; change and clean shower curtains. Move furniture. Perform other related duties as required. Qualifications High School education is desirable, with two to three years of relevant commercial or institutional custodial experience, including relevant training/experience in the use of commercial cleaning chemicals and equipment. General knowledge and skills related to routine housekeeping and maintenance work, with commercial/institutional cleaning experience desirable. Ability to perform tasks in specific sequences. Ability to work cooperatively with employees from other departments and to deal courteously with students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Willing and able to follow company procedures and safety protocols Ability to read and understand written instructions, chemical labels, and warnings. Physical ability to do heavy custodial work and operate cleaning equipment. Good basic supervisory skills (decision-making, interpersonal, adaptability, and time management). Strong computer aptitude, including Microsoft Office, and the ability to learn operational applications.
