Incentives and Stipends:
$2,500
Fully Licensed Special Education Teacher Stipend:
A teacher who holds an active Colorado Department of Education license endorsed in Special Education will receive an additional stipend of $2500 (pro-rated based on FTE) $5,000
Administrative Stipend:
A teacher who holds an active Colorado Department of Education principal license will receive an additional stipend of $5,000 (pro-rated based on FTE)
SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION
The Interim Lead Special Education Teacher is a full-time special education teacher responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, case management, and ensuring compliance with all IDEA requirements. In addition, this position carries limited, clearly defined Dean of Students responsibilities (approximately 10% of time) focused on supporting student behavior systems—particularly for students with disabilities. The additional responsibilities are designed to strengthen alignment between special education services and school-wide discipline systems, not to replace administrative roles.

ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS
Primary Role - Special Education Teacher Program Leadership Work with building staff to ensure effective programming model Work with building leadership to enhance behavioral management practices of students with disabilities Work with building leadership to establish a supportive culture regarding inclusion of students with disabilities Instruction & Service Delivery Deliver direct special education services across the continuum (co-teaching, small group, pull-out, consultation) Ensure all IEP services are implemented with fidelity and aligned to student needs Use progress monitoring to adjust instruction and interventions Implement research-based academic and behavioral strategies. Case Management & Compliance Serve as case manager for assigned students Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and district requirements (timelines, documentation, reporting) Facilitate IEP meetings and collaborate with families Collaboration Partner with general education staff to implement accommodations and modifications Coordinate with related service providers Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress Professional Responsibilities Maintain accurate, confidential student records Participate in staffings, professional learning, and school teams Support a positive, inclusive learning environment Additional Responsibilities (≈10%): Dean of Students Support
Important:
These responsibilities are limited in scope and scheduled, and must not interfere with required IEP services Behavior & Discipline Support Assist administration with student discipline as assigned Support implementation of school-wide behavior expectations and restorative practices Provide input on discipline decisions involving students with disabilities to ensure alignment with IDEA and Section 504 Specialized Behavioral Expertise Support development and implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) Provide consultation to staff on behavior strategies for students with disabilities Assist with problem-solving for students with significant behavioral needs Crisis & Response Support Assist with student de-escalation and crisis response as needed and available Support re-entry planning following disciplinary actions Attendance & Student Monitoring Monitor and support attendance interventions for students on caseload or as assigned Collaborate with administration on patterns impacting student success Non-Negotiable Role Boundaries To preserve the integrity of the position: The employee remains a full-time special education teacher Dean responsibilities are: Assigned by administration Scheduled in advance whenever possible Limited to approximately 10% of work time The role does not: Assume primary responsibility for school-wide discipline Interfere with IEP service delivery or compliance timelines
QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Colorado Department of Education Special Education Teaching License required. Valid Colorado Department of Education Principal License required. Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience in special education preferred. Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, behavioral intervention strategies, and restorative practices. Demonstrated leadership, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills. Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.
