The purpose of the school librarian is to foster an inclusive, dynamic learning environment that empowers students to explore, create, collaborate, and take ownership of their learning. By providing access to essential resources, the librarian equips all students to excel in a rapidly evolving world.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
The school librarian will have at least a bachelor's degree in Education and certification in Library Science. Experience as a librarian is desired.ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Develop a library mission that aligns with the district/school mission and strategic plans. Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all library materials (both physical and digital) and instruct teachers and students on the use of the system. Participate in the development of library policies, including those addressing digital citizenship and access to resources. Provide a training program for library staff and/or library volunteers, including technology support, accessing and returning library materials, and makerspace facilitation. Promote the appropriate conduct of students using library facilities, including responsible digital citizenship and collaborative learning behaviors. Prepare and administer the library budget with attention to balancing print resources, digital subscriptions, technology tools, and makerspace supplies. Establish routines and procedures for selecting, ordering, processing, organizing, classifying, and maintaining library holdings. Maintain accurate records of library holdings, usage data, and program effectiveness to inform decision-making. Supervise the technical aspects of library management, including digital platforms, online databases, and emerging technologies. Evaluates, introduces, and models emerging technologies for the learning community and provides professional development opportunities for staff as needed. Train students and staff members in the use of audio-visual equipment, digital research tools, and makerspace technologies. Models appropriate digital citizenship practices and adherence to copyright and fair use requirements. Create a functional information literacy program for students that includes digital literacy skills, critical evaluation of sources, and responsible research practices. Promote equity, access, and intellectual freedom for users within the physical space and beyond, including access to the online library catalog, eBooks and audiobooks, and various information resources. Collaborate with teachers as an instructional partner to design learning experiences that integrate information literacy with curriculum content. Assist teachers in planning assignments to allow for extended use of library resources (both physical and digital) and in the ordering of materials related to classroom use. Keep current with educational research, trends, methods, and materials. Promote activities to assist students in the development of recreational reading and foster a community of readers through both traditional and innovative approaches. Collect and analyze data on library usage and program effectiveness to inform continuous improvement of services. Establish partnerships with public libraries and community organizations to expand resources and learning opportunities available to students and staff.ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Effectively communicate, verbally and in written form, with administrators, staff, and the community as needed. Provide for professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning. Participate in curriculum study and revision. Other duties as assigned by the principal.SUPERVISORY DUTIES

An individual who holds this position must have the ability to identify the needs and abilities of individual students and to adapt instructional methods accordingly. A librarian will read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, board policy, administrative procedures and forms, and governmental regulations and guidance. This person should also have the ability to maintain highly confidential information; communicate both orally and in writing, and/or the ability to reason and make appropriate decisions, as well as solve a variety of problems in many different situations, and have a strong attention to detail.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position, an employee is regularly required to communicate and hear effectively in an environment with multiple simultaneous conversations and activities. Move throughout the library facility, including between shelves and workstations. Arrange and reconfigure library furniture to optimize space usage and create functional learning environments. Reach, bend, stoop, and kneel to access materials on various shelving heights. Lift and carry books, materials, and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds occasionally. See and read printed and digital materials, including extended periods of viewing computer screens. Manipulate objects requiring fine motor skills, including books, keyboard/mouse, and cataloging materials.WORK ENVIRONMENT
The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally, the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to provide supervision of students and required tasks as assigned. Salary and work year will be in accordance with the current teacher salary schedule and the Professional Agreement. Days employed in excess of the established work calendar shall be payable at the employee's regular daily rate.EVALUATION
