2026-2027 - Interviewing now We are seeking a dedicated and student-focused Life Skills Teacher / Special Education Teacher to support K-12 students in the Pierre, South Dakota area. This contract position focuses on providing individualized instruction and intervention for students with dyslexia and related learning disabilities in both classroom and life skills settings. The ideal candidate is passionate about helping students build academic confidence, independence, and functional life skills while collaborating closely with families, support staff, and school teams. Responsibilities Provide specialized instruction for K-12 students with dyslexia and learning disabilities Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) Deliver evidence-based reading and literacy interventions Support students in developing academic, social, behavioral, and life skills Adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation Collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, and families Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or related field Active South Dakota teaching certification/license in Special Education Experience working with students with dyslexia preferred Knowledge of structured literacy or evidence-based dyslexia interventions preferred Strong communication and classroom management skills Ability to work collaboratively within a school team environment Position Details K-12 caseload Contract assignment Full-time schedule preferred Competitive hourly pay: $43-$47/hour Supportive school environment Opportunity to make a meaningful impact in students' academic and personal growth Apply Today Qualified candidates interested in supporting students with dyslexia and special education needs in Pierre, South Dakota are encouraged to apply.
