Unpaid (housing is provided) + university credit if applicable About the Role Magical Creatures Sanctuary is a nonprofit animal rescue located on Hawaiʻi's Big Island. Home to over 90 rescued animals—including pigs, cows, goats, chickens, ducks, cats, and sheep—we provide a safe, compassionate environment for animals saved from neglect, abandonment, and slaughter. We are seeking Live-In Animal Care Volunteers who are dependable, hardworking, and passionate about animal welfare. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in animal care while living in a unique, off-grid environment surrounded by nature. Responsibilities Feed and provide fresh water to all animals Clean and maintain barns, pastures, and living spaces Provide enrichment, handling, and daily interaction with animals Assist with specialized care (training provided), including wound care, supplements, prosthetics, and laser therapy Support animals with mobility aids such as wheelchairs and braces Create enrichment activities and simple treat-based toys Additional Opportunities Assist with hoof trimming and fecal sampling Help lead or support volunteer days Participate in basic construction and fence repair projects Support tours, events, and social media content Qualifications Must be 18 years or older Valid U.S. driver's license strongly preferred Ability to lift up to 50 lbs Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions Self-motivated and able to work independently and on a team Respectful of animals and aligned with sanctuary values Previous animal or farm experience preferred, but not required Requirements & Policies Vegan diet required while on the property No drugs, weapons, animal products, or excessive alcohol permitted onsite Benefits & Perks Shared housing in an off-grid yurt (solar power, outdoor shower, kitchen) Two full days off per week Access to a sanctuary vehicle for errands and local travel (fuel cost applies) WiFi access at office + cell service at housing site Close proximity to waterfalls, beaches, hiking trails, and volcanoes Opportunity to earn college credit Supportive, mission-driven community Work Environment This is a remote, rural setting with no nightlife or city distractions. Pay:
