Job Description

Machine Operator Job Description This role involves setting up and operating er heavy industrial machinery to produce high-quality parts according to blueprints and precise measurements. The Brake Machine Operator reads and interprets technical drawings, performs accurate measurements, conducts quality checks, and uses material-handling equipment to safely move products through the production process. Responsibilities Set up and operate brake press machines to form metal components according to specifications. Operate heavy industrial machinery when required to support production needs. Read and interpret blueprints to determine dimensions, tolerances, and production requirements. Use a tape measure accurately to 1/16th of an inch during evaluation and to 1/32nd of an inch on the production floor. Read and use micrometers and calipers to verify part dimensions and ensure product quality. Operate a sit-down forklift to move materials and finished products safely within the facility. Use overhead crane equipment to lift and position materials onto the production line when needed. Follow lockout/tagout procedures to ensure safe operation and maintenance of machinery. Perform routine quality checks on parts and components throughout the production process. Accurately input production and quality data into computer systems. Follow all safety guidelines, standard operating procedures, and work instructions. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and maintain a clean, organized work area. Essential Skills Minimum of 2 years of brake press experience or related heavy industrial machine operation experience. Proficiency operating brake press machines or comparable heavy industrial equipment. Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately. Ability to read a tape measure to 1/16th of an inch during assessment and 1/32nd of an inch on the production floor. Ability to read and use micrometers and calipers for precise measurements. Experience with lockout/tagout safety procedures. Ability to perform detailed quality checks and follow quality standards. Basic computer skills to input and track production information. High school diploma or equivalent. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience operating a sit-down forklift. Experience operating an overhead crane for material handling. Previous work in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in measurements and quality. Ability to work scheduled shifts and mandated overtime as required. Why Work Here? Employees have access to locker bays with assigned lockers for personal belongings, as well as a brand-new kitchen and market area with vending machines for snacks and lunch items. The facility uses brake press machines, heavy industrial equipment, sit-down forklifts, and overhead cranes to move and process materials. The position typically works on 2nd shift from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with mandated overtime of up to an hour after each shift and every other Saturday, depending on production needs. The environment emphasizes cleanliness, organization, safety procedures, and modern equipment to support efficient and safe operations Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hobart, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
