Job Description
New Com Metal Products is seeking an experienced, hands-on Machining Department Manager to lead and grow our machining division. This individual will be responsible for organizing workflow, managing production schedules, setting up and operating CNC equipment, programming jobs, entering and tracking work through JobBOSS, and helping establish efficient machining processes throughout the department. This is a leadership role for someone who enjoys building systems, improving processes, and working directly on the shop floor. The ideal candidate is highly organized, mechanically skilled, production-focused, and capable of jumping on a machine when needed to keep production moving. The Machining Department Manager will also oversee and support a small team of up to three machinists, ensuring productivity, quality, training, and workflow coordination within the department. Responsibilities Lead and manage daily operations of the machining department Supervise, train, and support a team of up to three machinists Organize workflow, scheduling, and job prioritization to meet production deadlines Set up, operate, and program CNC milling and turning machines Utilize CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks and other CNC programming tools Edit and troubleshoot G-code programs as needed Enter, track, and manage jobs within the Job

system Interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) specifications to produce accurate parts Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and machining strategies for production runs Utilize precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to verify dimensions and tolerances Conduct inspections and ensure all parts meet quality standards prior to final assembly or shipment Perform routine maintenance on CNC equipment and troubleshoot machining or production issues Make machine and tooling adjustments to optimize performance and efficiency Coordinate with fabrication, welding, engineering, and production teams to maintain workflow Support lean manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement projects Maintain department organization, cleanliness, and safety standards Help build department structure, processes, and best practices as the machining division expands Qualifications 10+ years of CNC machining experience required 5+ years of previous leadership or supervisory experience Expert level knowledge of CNC machining, machine setup, tooling, and production processes Proven experience operating CNC milling machines, particularly with Fanuc controls or similar systems Strong background in CNC programming, including G-code editing and CAM programming techniques Experience with CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks preferred Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T principles, and mechanical drawings Experience using precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, etc Mechanical aptitude with strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills Familiarity with CNC mills, CNC lathes, forklifts, hand tools, power tools, and tooling setups Experience with JobBOSS or similar ERP/job tracking systems preferred Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills Ability to work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement Compensation & Benefits Competitive pay based on experience Opportunities for advancement and leadership growth Stable and growing company environment Health benefits and paid time off About New Com Metal Products New Com Metal Products is a growing fabrication company focused on quality craftsmanship, dependable service, and continuous improvement.
