An Aircraft or A & P Mechanic maintains and repairs different types of aircraft such as planes, jets or helicopters. Provides scheduled maintenance and inspections. May specialize in working on the frame, engine, electrical systems or other parts of an aircraft, or specialize in certain types of aircraft.
An Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and overhauling aircraft and aircraft systems to ensure safe and airworthy operation. This role requires compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, manufacturer maintenance manuals, and company policies while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities
Perform scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance.
Inspect airframes, engines, landing gear, hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, and electrical systems.
Diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions using specialized tools and test equipment.
Repair or replace defective aircraft components and systems.
Conduct routine inspections, functional tests, and engine run-ups.
Read and interpret maintenance manuals, service bulletins, engineering drawings, and technical data.
Complete accurate maintenance records, logbook entries, and work orders.
Ensure all maintenance complies with FAA regulations and company quality standards.
Perform aircraft modifications and installations as required.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Assist with aircraft towing, servicing, and operational checks when necessary.
Collaborate with other maintenance personnel, inspectors, and flight crews to ensure aircraft readiness.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certificate.
High school diploma or GED; aviation maintenance training preferred.
Knowledge of FAA regulations, maintenance procedures, and aircraft systems.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with hand tools, precision measuring instruments, and diagnostic equipment.
Valid driver's license (preferred by many employers).
Ability to pass background checks and drug screening, if required
