- Working as a Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) Mechanical Engineering Designer at BAE Systems Space and Mission Systems (SMS) is an exciting opportunity to become part of a high-tech team of people developing innovative products for the Aerospace and Defense industry.
- What You ll
Do:
- + Develop, design, and certify of Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) and Special Test Equipment (STE) from concept though final delivery for Instruments, Payloads, and Space Vehicles.

hardware may include lifting, handling, support, transport, tooling and test hardware (including thermal, vibration, optical, EMI/EMC, acoustic, etc.) + Work with internal and external customers to derive, negotiate, document, and change-control requirements. + Own your MGSE designs and produce solutions which meet cost, schedule, and technical requirements. + Support requirements development, design for manufacturing, design for test, and requirements verification. + Proactively identify, communicate, and manage risks and opportunities. + Interact with other functional disciplines in an integrated program team (IPT) environment. Provide technical oversight of MGSE related subcontracts that are part of the MGSE designs. + Post design sustaining engineering support will be required from fabrication, assembly and into test and first use. + Contribute to continuous evolution of MGSE processes and tools to improve execution. + Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule. + Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment. + Perform other duties as necessary.On-Site Work Environment:
- This position requires regular in-person engagement by working
- on-site five days
- each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
- + Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment. + May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required. + May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
- Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- + BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 4 or more years related experience.
- Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- + BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. + Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. + Experience in Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) hardware design for aerospace applications. + Demonstrated ability to design to technical, cost and schedule requirements while managing risks and opportunities within design. + Proficiency using SolidWorks.
- Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range:
$97008 - $164914 Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.Employee Benefits:
