We specialize in high-quality private and corporate aircraft interiors. Experienced Aircraft Wood Finish Technician Aircraft Interior Removal & Installation Technician When applying, please clearly identify the position for which you are applying. Experienced Aircraft Wood Finish Technician This is not an entry-level wood-finishing position . Applicants must have substantial hands-on experience specifically finishing and refinishing aircraft interior woodwork and cabinetry . General furniture, residential cabinetry, automotive paint, or marine-finishing experience may be valuable, but it does not replace the required aircraft-interior wood-finishing experience. Responsibilities Perform the complete aircraft wood-finishing and refinishing process from initial preparation through final inspection. Strip existing finishes without damaging the veneer, substrate, edges, inlays, or surrounding materials. Prepare aircraft cabinetry and wood components through proper cleaning, masking, sanding, filling, and surface correction. Mix, tint, reduce, and catalyze stains, dyes, toners, sealers, paints, and clear-coat materials using the correct ratios and procedures. Independently perform accurate color matching and color correction to reproduce approved samples or match existing aircraft components. Match stain color, grain appearance, depth, clarity, tone, and gloss level across individual components and complete cabin sets. Apply stains, dyes, toners, sealers, clear coats, and other approved finishing materials using spray equipment and appropriate manual techniques. Produce high-quality matte, satin, semi-gloss, and high-gloss finishes according to customer requirements. Sand between coats and perform final wet sanding, buffing, polishing, and detailing. Identify and correct finish defects such as runs, sags, orange peel, fisheyes, pinholes, contamination, uneven color, scratches, burn-through, cloudiness, and other surface imperfections. Perform localized repairs, blending, spot refinishing, touch-ups, and cosmetic corrections in the shop or aboard the aircraft. Evaluate existing finishes and determine the appropriate preparation, repair, and refinishing process. Handle and protect delicate veneers, finished cabinetry, decorative surfaces, metal accents, and customer property. Read and follow work instructions, technical data, material specifications, product data sheets, customer-approved samples, and applicable drawings. Maintain accurate records of materials, mixtures, work performed, discrepancies, and required inspections. Properly operate, clean, and maintain spray guns, sanding equipment, polishing equipment, and other finishing tools. Follow all requirements related to personal protective equipment, respirator use, chemical handling, hazardous materials, ventilation, and spray-booth safety. Inspect completed work under appropriate lighting and ensure it meets AFC's standards before presenting it for final inspection. Required Wood Finish Qualifications Direct professional experience finishing or refinishing aircraft interior wood components is required. Minimum three years of aircraft wood-finishing experience strongly preferred; five or more years is ideal. Must be able to independently perform color mixing, tinting, matching, and correction . Thorough knowledge of wood-finishing preparation, staining, toning, sealing, clear coating, sanding, buffing, polishing, repair, and touch-up processes. Experience producing premium finishes for private, corporate, VIP, or business aircraft interiors. Proficiency with spray equipment and the controlled application of aviation-appropriate finishing products. Ability to identify finish defects, determine their causes, and complete the necessary corrections. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while consistently producing high-quality results. Strong eye for color, gloss, clarity, surface uniformity, and small cosmetic imperfections. Knowledge of proper chemical mixing, material compatibility, cure times, application conditions, and safe handling procedures. Photographs or a portfolio of completed aircraft wood-finishing work may be requested during the application or interview process. Applicants without direct aircraft wood-finishing experience will not be considered for the Wood Finish Technician position. Aircraft Interior Removal & Installation Technician The R&I Technician is responsible for safely removing, handling, protecting, organizing, and reinstalling aircraft interior components while maintaining AFC's quality, safety, and documentation standards. Responsibilities Remove and install aircraft interior components, including seats, sidewalls, headliners, dado panels, carpeting, cabinetry, tables, galleys, lavatories, closets, partitions, and related furnishings. Follow applicable work instructions, technical manuals, drawings, component-removal instructions, and approved procedures. Properly identify, tag, bag, organize, inventory, protect, and store removed components and hardware. Maintain hardware accountability and ensure fasteners and components remain properly associated with their installation locations. Protect aircraft surfaces, furnishings, windows, flooring, structures, and surrounding work areas from damage. Inspect components and installation areas for pre-existing damage, defects, missing hardware, or discrepancies and report concerns immediately. Coordinate with upholstery, carpet, cabinetry, wood finish, quality, and supervisory personnel throughout the project. Reinstall components with the correct fit, alignment, security, clearance, operation, and finished appearance. Perform adjustments and minor repairs necessary to achieve proper fit and function. Safely use hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment, and other tools required for aircraft-interior work. Maintain accurate work records, removal sheets, discrepancy information, task documentation, and project updates. Keep tools, parts, hardware, materials, and work areas clean, protected, and organized. Complete assigned work accurately and within established project schedules. R&I Qualifications Previous aircraft interior removal and installation experience is strongly preferred. Familiarity with private, corporate, VIP, or business aircraft interiors is highly desirable. Knowledge of aircraft seats, cabinetry, sidewalls, headliners, carpeting, galleys, lavatories, tables, and related interior furnishings. Strong mechanical ability and working knowledge of appropriate hand and power tools. Ability to read and follow work instructions, drawings, technical documentation, and measurements. Ability to maintain hardware accountability and organize removed components correctly. Strong attention to detail and commitment to protecting aircraft and customer property. Ability to recognize and report damage, defects, improper fit, and installation discrepancies. Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with other departments. Physical and Work-Environment Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in confined aircraft-interior spaces for extended periods. Ability to safely lift, carry, position, and maneuver aircraft components, tools, and materials. Ability to perform repetitive and highly detailed work using hands, tools, and equipment. Ability to distinguish colors, shades, gloss levels, and small surface imperfections, particularly for the Wood Finish position. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection when applicable. Ability to work in aircraft, hangar, shop, spray-booth, and production environments. Compensation and Benefits $18.00-$45.00 per hour , based on the position, relevant aircraft experience, technical ability, and demonstrated skill level. Overtime pay when applicable.
