AIRCRAFT MECHANIC
SUPERVISOR, WS-8852-10, you will provide overall direction and coordinion of subordine work activities and functions which, because of their scope, volume and complexity are carried out by two or more organizional segments and layers, possibly during two or more shifts. Control and management of the work functions requires several subordine supervisors. The occupion and non-supervisory grade level which best reflects the nure of the overall work operions supervised is Aircraft Mechanic, WG-8852-10. 1)
Planning:
Plans the overall allocion of personnel and other resources to the organizional segments supervised to accomplish work operions which, because of their scope, volume, and complexity, must be planned on a yearly or longer basis. Analyzes the work plans developed by subordine supervisors for accomplishment of assigned work orders and projects and the stus of work being accomplished in relion to overall schedule requirements, including unanticiped or emergency requirements. Provides higher level managers and/or supervisors informion on stus of work projects, budget estimes, changes in equipment, facilities, techniques, etc. Participes fully with higher level management officials and staff organizions in studying and developing recommendions concerning changes in specificion requirements, work techniques and standards; revisions of organizional structures, responsibilities, and relionships; and improvement or modernizion of equipment, facility layout, and work flow. Participes in planning conferences and meetings. (2)
Work Direction:
Explains work requirements to subordine levels of supervision, sets deadlines and sequence of operions. Coordines and directs the work of units supervised. Balances work load for subordine work groups. Analyzes production, cost and personnel utilizion records and makes adjustment in operions to correct problems. Develops quality and quantity standards. Spot checks work operions to assure production and quality standards are met. Encourages employees to achieve goals. (3)
Administrion:
Recommends promotion or reassignment of subordine supervisors and reviews personnel actions prepared by them. Makes formal appraisal of supervisors' work performance and reviews employee appraisals submitted by them. Determines long-range training needs for all levels of subordines, submits funding and budget requests with justificion for approval, and arranges for the accomplishment of the training. Promotes and administers such programs as cost reduction, incentive awards, suggestions, and quality assurance. Ensures th regulions governing safety and housekeeping are observed with approprie protective clothing and equipment being utilized. Assures th subordine supervisors carry out such programs as labor-management and equal opportunity. Schedules and approves leave. Ensures th position descriptions are accure and th position management principles are followed. Develops and establishes the internal procedures to be followed by subordine supervisors to assure effective control and direction of the work activities, organizions, and personnel supervised. Assures th approprie production reports and administrive records are maintained. Acts on personnel problems referred by subordine supervisors. Hears and resolves grievances and ensures proper corrective action is taken. (4) Implements regulory safety requirements and ensures th subordines wear approprie safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions. (5) Performs other duties as assigned. GENERAL EXPERIENCE
: Experience or training which demonstres th the candide has the ability to organize assignments for subordines, estime merial and manpower needed for specific jobs; able to explain manuals and work procedures; and to prepare production records, work records and reports.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE
: - Must possess and document in detail least 36 months of experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modificion. Experience coordining the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstres the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience th provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstres the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communice knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situions.
