Job Summary
All Mechanic Helpers (MH), Flight Mechanics (FM), and Aircraft Crew Chiefs (CC) are accountable to Omega Air, Inc.'s Director of Maintenance (DOM) for all company aircraft maintenance and ground handling activities. The MH will assist with assigned tasks, ensuring that quality and safe products are delivered to meet all applicable company, customer, military, and FAA requirements under the supervision of a certified A&P Mechanic (Flight Mechanic). This includes tasks related to the mechanic's work on or about the aircraft, including support equipment, such as performing maintenance repairs, scheduling, servicing aircraft, maintaining work areas and inventories, calibrated items, reporting faulty equipment, completing the required paperwork, inspections, testing, parts ordering, toolbox audits, tote inventories, and aircraft Tech Logs.
The MH will assist with avionic, electrical, airframe, powerplants, fuel, hydraulic, and oxygen systems, and assist with maintenance actions such as aircraft modifications, rigging, removals, replacements, testing, installations, component removal and installations, assist with software uploads, operational checkouts, fault isolation, troubleshooting, and repairs to these systems. Additionally, the MH must be able to interpret and use various test and measuring equipment and work from wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, technical publications, Service Bulletins, Airworthiness Directives, and maintenance manuals.
All maintenance personnel must comply with Omega's FOD & Tool Control, Supply, HAZMAT, training, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Quality, and Security policies, procedures, and programs. This includes the Omega Air, Inc. Ground Operations Procedural Manual (GOPM). MH's will receive on-the-job training, assist others, and be responsible for their assigned tasks. MH's assists in developing solutions to conduct aircraft operations, modifications, and maintenance strategies in support of our
B707 & KC/KDC-10
maintenance requirements. These actions can be performed on the East Coast, the Midwest, the West Coast, and overseas locations. Subsequently, all maintenance personnel must be willing to travel to support operational requirements at any of these locations, at any time.
Essential Mechanic Helper responsibilities:
- Assist with maintenance and repairs, maintain work areas, report faulty equipment and expired calibration items.
- Complete the daily work assignments given by the FM/CC, assuring all technical instructions, blueprints, specifications, and daily objectives are clearly understood and complied with.
- Receives assistance from FM and CC's on specific tasks as required to ensure all maintenance is properly conducted, resulting in a high-quality, airworthy, and safe aircraft.
- FOD walks will be conducted at the beginning of the workday, the area in front of engine/APU inlets during pre-flights and prior to engine/APU runs, and at the end of the shift. Prior to using any FBO's Ground Support Equipment (GSE) or another company's GSE, an obvious damage inspection (visual walk around) and FOD inspection must be conducted daily, prior to use.
- MH's will ensure a fire bottle is close to and near the aircraft for all ground engine and APU starts.
- The MH's will interact with Omega maintenance leadership as necessary to ensure understanding of proper coverage, continuity of personnel, and to be informed of all issues, status, or concerns.
- MH's will assist with proper tagging, documentation, maintaining tote and overhead bin inventories, weights, and handling of parts. The MH will preserve all components and/or parts removed during the maintenance process and store them accordingly. The MH must always maintain proper tool control, parts inventory in totes and overhead bins, and in lower cargo bays on each aircraft.
- The use of interpersonal, communication, and teaming skills is required to maintain effective relationships with co-workers, aircrew, supervisors, and customers.
- Assist others in the use of proper work procedures, safety, and all other practices to be followed.
- This position allows home base to be anywhere within the contiguous United States.
- Monthly rotation is 20 days away, 10 days home.
- Requirements
Each MH must be able to read and interpret technical manuals, structure repair manuals, and wiring diagrams, including the understanding of symbols, flags, and general notes; and identify aircraft locations by fuselage station, waterline, butt-line, as depicted on, documentation, and technical publications.
- MH's must possess excellent attention to detail, precision workmanship, manual dexterity, mechanical aptitude, approachability, time and performance management, customer service, and internal and external interaction and listening skills.
- MH's must be proactive and have a collaborative approach to problem-solving, positive communication skills (verbal and written), and the ability to work with supervision in a team environment.
- MH's must learn to describe complex technical problems briefly and accurately in terms that permit the listener to make a valid decision, can change focus due to conflicting/changing priorities, be able to maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive situations appropriately.
Additional Requirements:
- This position requires a U.S. person, a green card holder, and/or a work visa.
- Can pass a background investigation and obtain a government-issued CAC Card
. - Must pass a drug and alcohol test before starting employment.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and other technical data, i.e., Structural Repair Manuals (SRM), General Maintenance Manuals (GMM), Wiring Diagrams, AD's, AWB's, S.B.'s, etc.
- The MH must be willing to obtain an A&P certification within an established time frame (based on aviation experience, training, etc.) and work as an MH (trainee) until an A&P certificate is obtained or the MH is dismissed.
- MH's must be able to read and use micrometers, calibrated tools, dial calipers, torque wrenches, Simpson meters, Ohms meters, and Fluke Meters, and operate basic ground support equipment.
- Must have a valid U.S.-issued driver's license to operate moving equipment and machinery.
- Must be willing to work overtime as necessary and independently.
- Must possess problem resolution, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and work well under pressure, while being led and following the direction of aircraft maintenance activities.
