Position Summary The Fire Watch Attendant is responsible for maintaining continuous surveillance of designated campus areas to identify and respond to potential fire hazards. This position helps ensure the safety of students, employees, visitors, and college property by monitoring work areas, enforcing fire safety protocols, documenting observations, and reporting unsafe conditions. The Fire Watch Attendant works under the direction of the Facilities Department and responds appropriately to emergency situations in accordance with established procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintain continuous visual surveillance of assigned areas for smoke, sparks, flames, or other potential fire hazards. Monitor designated work areas during activities requiring fire watch or when fire protection systems are impaired. Ensure combustible materials are removed from or maintained at a safe distance from designated work areas. Verify familiarity with the location and operation of fire alarm pull stations, fire extinguishers, emergency exits, and emergency response equipment. Immediately activate emergency procedures, including sounding the fire alarm and contacting emergency services, upon detecting signs of fire or other emergency conditions. Restrict unauthorized personnel from entering hazardous or restricted work areas to maintain a safe environment. Observe work areas for unsafe conditions and report fire hazards, safety concerns, or violations of established fire safety procedures to the appropriate Facilities personnel. Maintain accurate records and logs of fire watch assignments, inspection periods, observations, incidents, and corrective actions taken. Communicate regularly with Facilities staff and supervisors regarding work assignments, safety concerns, and emergency situations. Assist with maintaining compliance with applicable fire safety standards, policies, and procedures. Perform other related duties as assigned in support of Facilities operations. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent, required. Prior experience as a fire watch, safety monitor, or security guards, preferred. Knowledge of fire extinguisher use, preferred. SALARY:
