Job Description

Overview The Life Safety Technician 3 is responsible for all aspects of life safety operations across multiple facilities, ensuring compliance with NFPA standards and other regulatory requirements. This role coordinates the inspection, testing, and maintenance of all life safety systems, including fire alarms, fire protection systems, and emergency power supplies. Responsibilities include coordinating complex repairs, maintaining detailed documentation, and preparing facilities for regulatory surveys and inspections.

In addition to technical expertise, the Life Safety Technician 3 assists the Life Safety Officer in the development and implementation of training programs and interim life safety measures for construction and renovations. This role collaborates with contractors, other engineering staff, and department heads to identify and resolve life safety deficiencies and ensure system reliability. The position also leads fire/evacuation drills and assists in emergency response planning and execution.

The Life Safety Technician 3 provides mentorship and technical guidance to the Life Safety Technician 1 and 2 positions, and other Engineering staff, fostering skill development and adherence to safety standards. Performing root cause analyses to improve system performance and mitigate risks, ensuring continuous compliance and operational readiness is essential in this role. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively are required for the Life Safety Technician 3. Responsibilities Operations
  • Proactively develops creative solutions for life safety-related issues, collaborating with department heads to implement functional, long-term solutions. Leads initiatives and creates policies to enhance life safety compliance, continuously assessing operations and recommending improvements to optimize performance and reduce risks.
  • Performs assigned inspection, testing, and maintenance tasks on life safety systems. Accurately documents assigned work order progress and completion in the work order management system, and ensures timely work completion to minimize disruptions to patient care.
  • Reads and interprets building plans, schematics, and equipment manuals to independently troubleshoot, repair, and modify life safety and emergency power issues. Utilize diagnostic skills to identify root causes of equipment failures and implement effective repair strategies to minimize downtime. Notifies the authority having jurisdiction of life safety deficiencies as appropriate.
  • Will be required to work various shifts to accomplish required tasks. Leadership
  • Mentors lower-level technicians by guiding them through system repairs, developing troubleshooting skills, and supporting them in performing tasks independently. Provides ongoing guidance to technicians, fostering skill development, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and maintaining work standards. Project Management
  • Coordinates with external contractors, the NAH Construction Department, and all NAH Engineering Departments to verify life safety requirements are satisfied for all NAH construction projects. Compliance/Safety
  • Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
  • Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.
  • If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates. Qualifications Education High School Diploma or equivalent Certification & Licensures Employees hired on or before September 1, 2025, will have 24 months from that date to complete the required certifications.     • Certified Health Care Physical Environment Worker (American Hospital Association) Experience 7 years in life safety, fire protection, or a related technical field - Required3 years in a healthcare facility - Preferred Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care.
    Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
