Fire Alarm Programmer / Installer Carolina Custom Automation is seeking an experienced Fire Alarm Programmer / Installer to join our team. We are looking for someone with hands-on experience installing, programming, servicing, and troubleshooting commercial fire alarm systems. This position is ideal for a technician who can work independently in the field, diagnose problems efficiently, and take ownership of a project from installation through programming, testing, and final inspection. Responsibilities Install, program, service, and troubleshoot commercial fire alarm systems Program fire alarm control panels and associated devices Install and terminate initiating devices, notification appliances, modules, relays, and other system components Troubleshoot SLC, NAC, power supply, ground fault, communication, and device-related issues Perform system testing and assist with AHJ/fire marshal inspections Read and understand plans, riser diagrams, wiring diagrams, and equipment documentation Verify proper device addressing, labeling, programming, and system operation Perform system upgrades, additions, repairs, and service calls Maintain clean and professional installations Document work performed and communicate project status with management Coordinate professionally with customers, general contractors, electricians, inspectors, and other trades Qualifications Previous hands-on experience with commercial fire alarm systems required Fire alarm programming experience strongly preferred Ability to troubleshoot systems without requiring constant supervision Working knowledge of conventional and addressable fire alarm systems Understanding of low-voltage wiring, relays, circuits, and electrical troubleshooting Ability to use a multimeter and other diagnostic tools Ability to read construction drawings and fire alarm plans Strong attention to detail and good troubleshooting skills Professional attitude and communication skills Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Ability to pass applicable background checks and meet licensing requirements Preferred Experience Experience with one or more major commercial fire alarm platforms is a plus, including Honeywell/Silent Knight, Fire-Lite, Notifier, Potter, Bosch, EST/Edwards, or similar systems . NICET certification and manufacturer-specific programming certifications are also a plus but are not required for the right candidate with proven field experience.
