In this role, you will be responsible for designing and estimating water-based fire sprinkler systems for commercial and industrial projects. Your expertise in sprinkler system design, NFPA requirements, hydraulic calculations, and construction drawings will be critical to delivering accurate, code-compliant designs and competitive project estimates. This position offers an opportunity to work closely with project managers, field personnel, contractors, and clients to develop efficient sprinkler system designs from initial plans through construction. Responsibilities Develop detailed water-based fire sprinkler system designs utilizing architectural, structural, mechanical, and plumbing drawings, specifications, and project requirements. Prepare sprinkler shop drawings, hydraulic calculations, material lists, and related design documentation in accordance with applicable NFPA standards, IBC requirements, and local codes. Review construction drawings thoroughly to identify sprinkler system requirements, potential conflicts, and opportunities for design and cost optimization. Prepare accurate estimates by analyzing material costs, labor, equipment, subcontractor pricing, and project requirements. Perform hydraulic calculations and system sizing for fire sprinkler systems. Utilize AutoCAD and Microsoft Office to produce professional design plans, calculations, estimates, and project documentation. Coordinate sprinkler designs with architects, engineers, general contractors, mechanical contractors, and other trades. Collaborate closely with Fire Sprinkler Section management to ensure design intent is maintained during installation and that projects remain within budget. Interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and construction drawings to develop practical and code-compliant sprinkler system designs. Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and project managers to clarify project scope, resolve design issues, and provide updates on design and estimate revisions. Assist with field surveys and site visits when necessary to verify existing conditions and gather information required for design. Stay current with applicable NFPA standards, building codes, and industry practices affecting water-based fire protection systems. Qualifications NICET Water-Based Systems Layout Level III or higher is required. Preference for candidates with NICET Water-Based Systems Layout Level IV certification. Proven experience designing and estimating commercial and industrial fire sprinkler systems. Strong knowledge of NFPA 13 and other applicable NFPA standards for water-based fire protection systems. Strong understanding of IBC, IFC, and local fire protection and building code requirements. Proficiency in hydraulic calculations and sprinkler system design. Skilled in reading and interpreting architectural, structural, mechanical, and construction drawings. Experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office. Experience with fire sprinkler estimating, material takeoffs, labor estimating, and project costing. Strong understanding of fire sprinkler installation processes and construction practices. Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Effective communication skills for client, contractor, and internal team interaction. Construction site experience or fire sprinkler field experience is highly desirable.
