Northeast Kingdom Fire & Safety is seeking a dependable, mechanically inclined individual to join our team as a Fire Extinguisher & Suppression Service Technician. No fire protection experience is required. We are willing to train the right person from the ground up. However, we are also very interested in experienced fire protection technicians, particularly individuals with experience servicing commercial kitchen fire suppression systems. Compensation Starting pay for a candidate with no fire protection experience is $22.50/hour . Employees holding a current Vermont T2 Chemical Suppression certification receive an additional $5.00/hour license premium. Additional starting compensation may be offered for substantial fire protection experience, particularly experience independently inspecting, servicing, troubleshooting, repairing, or installing commercial kitchen suppression systems. An experienced T2 technician capable of independently handling kitchen suppression work may earn $30-$35+/hour , depending on experience and capabilities. What You'll Do Primary responsibilities include: Inspecting and servicing portable fire extinguishers at customer locations Performing extinguisher maintenance, recharge, testing, and related shop work Maintaining accurate inspection and service records Identifying deficiencies and explaining necessary repairs or service to customers Driving a company service vehicle throughout Vermont and New Hampshire Maintaining an organized service vehicle, tools, equipment, and inventory Providing professional and courteous service to commercial and residential customers Inspecting and servicing commercial kitchen fire suppression systems when properly qualified Troubleshooting, repairing, and installing suppression-system components based on experience and licensing Following applicable manufacturer requirements, codes, standards, and company procedures Who We're Looking For Fire protection experience is not required for an entry-level candidate.

A successful candidate should:

Be dependable and able to work independently Have good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability Be comfortable using hand tools and performing hands-on mechanical work Have strong attention to detail Communicate professionally with customers Be comfortable driving throughout our service area Have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Be capable of safely lifting and handling fire extinguishers and related equipment Be willing to learn applicable fire codes, standards, manufacturer procedures, and inspection requirements Experienced Technicians We strongly encourage experienced fire protection technicians to apply. Experience with Ansul, Amerex, Buckeye, Pyro-Chem, or other commercial kitchen suppression systems is particularly valuable. Candidates who already hold a Vermont T2 certification and can independently inspect, service, troubleshoot, repair, and/or install kitchen suppression systems will be considered for compensation above the entry-level range based on their experience. We are particularly interested in finding someone who can bring significant kitchen suppression experience to our growing company. Schedule This is a full-time position. A typical workweek is approximately 40-45 hours , although hours may occasionally range from approximately 35-50 hours depending on workload and travel. Overtime is paid for hours worked over 40 in a workweek in accordance with applicable law. Some days involve significant driving between customer locations. Training & Advancement For someone new to the industry, we provide hands-on training in portable fire extinguisher inspection, maintenance, service, and related fire protection work. Employees interested in expanding their capabilities will have opportunities to pursue additional training and applicable fire protection certifications. This position has significant room for advancement as the employee becomes capable of independently performing additional types of fire protection work.
