Job Summary:

The Body Shop Prep Person plays a crucial role in the vehicle repair and restoration process. This position involves preparing vehicles for repair and painting by performing tasks such as sanding, masking, and cleaning. The Prep Person is responsible for ensuring that vehicles are properly prepped and ready for the next phase of the repair process.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Surface Preparation:

Perform sanding and surface conditioning on vehicles to remove rust, dents, damaged paint, and other imperfections. Ensure that surfaces are ready to receive a new coat of paint. 2.

Masking:

Apply masking tape and paper to protect areas that should not be painted, such as windows, lights, and trim. Ensure precise masking to achieve a clean and high-quality paint finish. 3.

Vehicle Cleaning:

Thoroughly clean both the interior and exterior of vehicles before the repair and painting process begins. This may involve removing dust, dirt, and chemical residues. 4.

Chemical Product Preparation:

Mix and prepare chemical products, such as primers and conditioners, according to job specifications and supervisor's instructions. 5.

Quality Inspection:

Conduct visual inspections to identify any defects or areas that require further attention before the painting process begins. 6.

Safety Compliance:

Strictly adhere to safety guidelines and use the necessary personal protective equipment to maintain a safe working environment. 7.

Tool and Equipment Maintenance:

Maintain and clean tools and equipment used in the preparation process, reporting any repair or replacement needs. 8.

Team Collaboration:

Work effectively with other members of the body shop team, such as painters and repair technicians, to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality end results.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in vehicle prep work in a body shop or related experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of masking, sanding, and surface conditioning techniques.
• Ability to use tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
• Attention to detail and inspection skills to ensure work quality.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
• Safety awareness and compliance with workplace safety standards.
• Physical capability to perform tasks that may involve lifting heavy objects and standing for extended periods.
